There are two versions of the flag: official and festive. The holiday version lacks the sun image. According to the laws of the country, the official version must always be above the holiday version. Until 1985, only government agencies were allowed to use the official version.
Symbolism
The colors and images on the Argentina flag mean the following:
- The yellow May sun symbolizes the Incan sun god.
- There is also a version that the sun is a symbol of revolution.
There are several interpretations of what exactly the colors on the flag mean.
- According to one version, white and blue colors are symbols of the sky and clouds, in the center of which the yellow sun shines. This interpretation is the most popular among the local population.
- The state religion of the republic is Catholicism, therefore, according to one version, the colors of the flag symbolize the robe of the Virgin Mary.
- There is a version that white and blue colors are a symbol of connection with the Spanish Bourbon dynasty.
- According to another version, the blue color is a symbol of the La Plata River, and the white color is silver.
Story
In the 16th century, Argentina was a Spanish colony. Since 1717, the following version of the flag was used by Spanish colonists.
Since 1785, the flag of Spain has been used as the official one. The design for the modern flag was proposed by Manuel Belgrano. In 1812, the flag consisted of three stripes of equal width, without the image of the sun, it was called the “Flag of Macha”, as it was found near the village of Macha, and is considered the first flag made by Belgran.
Since 1818, an image of the sun appeared on the canvas.
In 1830, a version of the country's flag was used in the Federal League. The color of the blue stripes has been slightly changed.
Since 1835, the version with the image of a red sun began to be used. Also in each corner was a Phrygian cap on a staff - a symbol of the struggle for freedom and independence.
Since 1850, the canvas has undergone changes again. The caps were tilted and the staff was put away. At that time the country was called the Argentine Confederation.
Since 1861, the modern version of the flag has been used.
Argentina is a country located on the South American continent and boasts a rich history and original traditions. National symbols are held in very high esteem in this country. Argentina considers its flag and coat of arms to be something more than state symbols. Through them, she demonstrates to the whole world the diversity of her culture and reveals the unique spirit of freedom. Even the national football team of this country is called “Alba Celeste”, which translates as “blue and white”.
general description
The national flag has the shape of a rectangle, the length and width of which are compared as two to one. The panel consists of three strips of equal height, located horizontally. The two outermost ones are made in light blue. As for the midline, it is white. In the center of the flag of Argentina (photos below) is a yellow image of the May sun. It is considered one of the national symbols of the country and commemorates the revolutionary May events.
History of appearance
The national flag of this South American country was first officially recognized in 1812. It should be noted that that version differed from the modern version in the absence of a pattern on the white stripe. It should be noted that both flags of Argentina are currently active symbols. The version with the sun is known as a ceremonial official symbol, while without it it has the status of a festive canvas. The fundamental difference in their use is that in the first case the flag is always raised higher.
An interesting historical fact is that the right to use the version with the image of the sun for a long time was exclusively held by government, provincial and national organizations. As for individuals, they were only allowed to use the flag without its image. This situation was even approved at the government level by a special legislative act, which was repealed in 1985.
Symbolism
According to the most common version, the flag of Argentina symbolizes the white color of the snowy Andes and the blue sky of the country. At the same time, some historians claim that this particular combination of colors was used by the Bourbon dynasty. There is also a third version. It comes down to the fact that the colors of the national Argentine symbol are connected with the clothing of the Virgin Mary. It is impossible not to note the unofficial interpretation of the symbols. In particular, the blue color in Argentina often means its main river, La Plata, and the white color means silver, after which the entire state is named. The sun historically symbolizes the god of the Inca state.
June 20
The flag of Argentina is so respected in the country that the country even has a national holiday dedicated to it. It is celebrated on June 20. The fact is that it was on this day in 1820 that its author, Manuel Belgran, died. Moreover, in this person’s hometown (Rosario) it is celebrated for a whole week. It should be noted that here the flag of Argentina even has its own monument, which the national symbols of many other countries cannot boast of.
National emblem
The colors of the flag are used as the background for the national emblem. It depicts a handshake near which is considered a symbol of prosperity, equality and freedom. The top of the cap hangs to one side, and it itself is rounded. The same symbol was used by some tribes that had inhabited the area for a long time. In addition, the symbol of the nation is placed on the coat of arms - the rising sun, and it itself is decorated with oak branches.

Story
The full version of the flag, including the image of the sun, is called the "official ceremonial flag" (Spanish). Bandera Official de Ceremonia ), a flag without a sun is a “celebratory flag” (Spanish. Bandera de Ornato). The official version of the flag should always be raised higher than the celebratory version. In all other respects, both versions of the national flag are considered full rights.
Until 1985, the official ceremonial flag (featuring the "May Sun") could only be used by state and provincial government agencies. Individuals could only use the flag without the sun. This was enshrined in the regulation of 1943, and then confirmed in Decree 10302 of 1944. The immediate predecessors of this rule were Decrees 1027, 5256 and 6628 of 1943.
In accordance with Article 1 of Law 23.208 of July 25, 1985, adopted by Decree 1541 of August 16 of the same year, a single flag with the “May sun” was established for all Argentines. Article 2 of this Law repealed all previous laws restricting the use of the "official ceremonial flag" for individuals.

Interpretation of meaning
According to the most common interpretation of the meaning of the flag, it represents the sky, clouds and sun. However, there are several folk tales that explain the meaning of the flag colors differently. According to one of them, the blue color symbolizes the La Plata River ( Rio de la Plata- literally "River of Silver"), and white - silver (the name "Argentina" comes from the Latin name for silver, lat. argentum). It is also believed that the colors of the flag are based on the traditional colors of the Bourbon family. According to another option, blue and white are the colors of the Virgin Mary's robes.
- The Argentine flag appeared in cinema in 1897, when the film “Argentine Flag” was shot, which is also considered the first film in the history of Argentine cinema.

Country information
Argentina (Argentine Republic) is the second largest country in South America and the eighth in the world. Spain, as elsewhere on the continent, had the greatest influence on the formation and development of the country. And, as happened everywhere, eventually a conflict arose with the metropolis, a war of liberation and independence. In the case of Argentina, this happened in 1816. At the same time, the British Empire showed interest in the region, but its attempts to capture Buenos Aires were repulsed. The story is that a serious rift between Argentina and Great Britain continues to this day over the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands.
The country is Spanish-speaking, and the national currency is the Argentine peso. More than 90% of the population are Christians, mostly Catholics.
