The location of the vehicle on a two-way road. Location of vehicles on the roadway

Each of us believes that we have excellent driving skills and are well versed in road signs and. But there are times when even the most well-trained driver finds himself in a difficult situation. Especially if this is a resident of the periphery, where there are no roads with several lanes. Let's clarify some nuances.

Roadway and lane

A carriageway is considered to be that part of the road on which wheeled vehicles are allowed to travel. If there are tram tracks on the roadway, then movement on them is prohibited. However, sometimes such movement is permissible if the road surface merges with the rails. If the tram line runs along a dividing strip, then it is not used by wheeled vehicles.

A section of road without a dividing strip or with a double center line is one carriageway. A symmetrical solid line on both sides of the road is regarded as the “edge line” of the road and the beginning of the shoulder. It happens that the asphalt on the side of the road is smoother than the road itself. It's tempting. You feel sorry for your wheels, and you rush along the side of the road in comfort. This is strictly prohibited! Pedestrians can walk along the side of the road.

The “edge line” is applied intermittently if:

- This is a two-lane road (one lane in each direction).

Overtaking is allowed at this point on the road.

The route is fenced.

Public transport does not run regularly here.

There is no traffic on the section (1 car every 1.5 minutes).

Drivers can use the shoulder to turn around.

“Traffic lane” is a longitudinal line; there may not be any markings. The width of such a road will only accommodate one row of cars. The parameters of motorcycles and scooters are not taken into account. They are narrow and can move in one lane or in several rows. All sorts of roads are being built: from 1 to 50 lanes (for example, there is such a spacious highway in Beijing. In 2015, a huge traffic jam formed during the narrowing of a 50-lane highway to the size of a regular 3-lane road).

Determining the number of stripes

The stripes between opposite sidewalks or shoulders along the entire width of the road are counted.

If there are road signs

Road signs are a good hint to the driver. Look for the "Number of Lanes" sign. You can see one 50 - 150 meters before the start of a section of road with several lanes. The "Start of Lane" sign is located on an incline or braking lane. An additional stripe begins at this point. A "Start of Lane" sign may indicate the appearance of an additional lane in the middle of a three-lane road.

The "End of Lane" sign signals the boundary of an additional lane on an uphill slope or acceleration lane. You will find the same sign at the end of the middle lane of a three-lane road. The “Direction of Lanes” sign is mounted on oncoming lanes with different numbers of lanes. This helps a lot if there is a difficult road junction. There is often a sign in front of an intersection that allows traffic to only be in 2 lanes. If the traffic before this sign was 3-lane, then you must change into 2 lanes before the intersection.

If there are horizontal markings

Horizontal markings are lines, arrows, and inscriptions on traffic lanes. The marking can be permanent or temporary. Permanent horizontal markings are white or yellow lines. Temporary markings are applied in orange.

How to determine the number of stripes for horizontal markings?

You can drive in one row in opposite directions when there is one continuous line in the center of the roadway. Two solid stripes in the center mean that you can drive in both directions in several rows. One intermittent - separates oncoming traffic on roads with two or three lanes; denotes the boundaries of rows on a multi-lane road. The approach line - broken dashes (3:1) - warns that soon there will be markings separating traffic flows in different directions.

If the width of the track allows it to accommodate three-lane traffic, then the “longitudinal continuous” is applied asymmetrically: in one direction the cars follow in 2 rows, and in the opposite direction - in 1 row. VERY IMPORTANT!If road signs (permanent or temporary) and marking lines do not match, or the markings are not visible, remember that PRIORITY there will be a road sign. And when the lines of temporary and permanent markings do not coincide, then HOME there will be a temporary marking line (orange).

Determine the number of stripes yourself

If there are no markings at all, we determine everything by eye. If signs and markings are not observed, then it is possible to determine how many traffic lanes on the road, taking into account the dimensions of the vehicle and taking into account the safe width between them. We remember not to hit the neighboring car. At the same time, do not forget that only on the left side of the road you can move towards.

Fines for driving in different lanes

If you drive along the dividing line between lanes, you face a fine 500 rubles. For castling between lanes without turning signals, the fine will be 500 rubles. If you change lanes at an intersection, you will have to pay 1500 rubles. If you are a reckless driver and fly into oncoming traffic, you will have to pay up to 1500 rubles, and for overtaking in the oncoming lane - up to 5000 rubles, or you will be left without a license (for a maximum of six months). Moving along tram tracks is equivalent to moving in the oncoming lane.

The number of lanes for trackless vehicles is determined by markings and (or) signs 5.15.1, 5.15.2, 5.15.7, 5.15.8, and if there are none, then by the drivers themselves, taking into account the width of the roadway, vehicle dimensions and required intervals between them. In this case, the side intended for oncoming traffic on two-way roads without a dividing strip is considered to be half the width of the roadway located on the left, not counting local widenings of the roadway (transition and express lanes, additional lanes on the rise, drive-in pockets of stops for route vehicles ).

Vehicles whose speed should not exceed 40 km/h or which for technical reasons cannot reach such a speed must move in the extreme right lane, except in cases of detour, overtaking or changing lanes before turning left, making a U-turn or stopping in permitted cases on the left side of the road.

It is permitted to travel on tram tracks in the same direction, located on the left at the same level as the roadway, when all lanes in this direction are occupied, as well as when making a detour, turning left or making a U-turn, taking into account clause 8.5 of the Rules. In this case, there should be no interference with the tram. It is prohibited to drive onto tram tracks in the opposite direction. If road signs 5.15.1 or 5.15.2 are installed in front of the intersection, driving on tram tracks through the intersection is prohibited.

If the roadway is divided into stripes by marking lines, the movement of vehicles must be carried out strictly along the designated lanes. It is allowed to drive over broken marking lines only when changing lanes.

When turning onto a road with reverse traffic, the driver must drive the vehicle in such a way that when leaving the intersection of roadways, the vehicle takes the far right lane. Changing lanes is permitted only after the driver is convinced that traffic in this direction is also permitted in other lanes.

The movement of vehicles on dividing strips and shoulders, sidewalks and pedestrian paths is prohibited (except for the cases provided for in paragraphs 12.1, 24.2, 24.3, 24.4, 24.7, 25.2 of the Rules), as well as the movement of motor vehicles (except mopeds) on lanes for cyclists. The movement of motor vehicles on bicycle and bicycle-pedestrian paths is prohibited. The movement of vehicles of road maintenance and utility services is allowed, as well as access along the shortest route for vehicles delivering cargo to trade and other enterprises and facilities located directly next to the roadsides, sidewalks or pedestrian paths, in the absence of other access options. At the same time, traffic safety must be ensured.

The driver must maintain such a distance from the vehicle in front that would allow him to avoid a collision, as well as the necessary lateral interval to ensure traffic safety.

Outside populated areas on dual carriageway roads with two lanes, the driver of a vehicle for which a speed limit has been established, as well as the driver of a vehicle (vehicle combination) longer than 7 m, must maintain such a distance between himself and the vehicle moving ahead that overtaking vehicles could move into the lane they previously occupied without interference. This requirement does not apply when driving on sections of roads where overtaking is prohibited, as well as during heavy traffic and movement in an organized transport convoy.

On two-way roads, in the absence of a dividing strip, traffic islands, bollards and elements of road structures (supports of bridges, overpasses, etc.) located in the middle of the roadway, the driver must drive around on the right, unless signs and markings indicate otherwise.

9.1.1. On any two-way roads, driving in the lane intended for oncoming traffic is prohibited if it is separated by tram tracks, a dividing strip, markings 1.1, 1.3 or markings 1.11, the broken line of which is located on the left.

9.2. On dual carriageway roads with four or more lanes, it is prohibited to overtake or pass into the lane intended for oncoming traffic. On such roads, left turns or U-turns may be made at intersections and in other places where this is not prohibited by the Rules, signs and (or) markings.

9.3. On two-way roads with three lanes marked with markings (except for markings

1.9), of which the middle one is used for traffic in both directions, it is permitted to enter this lane only for overtaking, passing, turning left or making a U-turn. It is prohibited to enter the leftmost lane intended for oncoming traffic.

9.4. Outside populated areas, as well as in populated areas on roads marked with signs 5.1 or 5.3 or where driving at a speed of more than 80 km/h is permitted, vehicle drivers must drive them as close as possible to the right edge of the roadway. It is prohibited to occupy the left lanes when the right lanes are free.

In populated areas, taking into account the requirements of this paragraph and paragraphs 9.5, 16.1 and 24.2 of the Rules, vehicle drivers can use the lane that is most convenient for them. In heavy traffic, when all lanes are occupied, changing lanes is only allowed to turn left or right, make a U-turn, stop, or avoid an obstacle.

However, on any roads that have three or more lanes for traffic in a given direction, the leftmost lane is allowed to occupy only in heavy traffic, when other lanes are occupied, as well as for turning left or making a U-turn, and for trucks with a permissible maximum weight of more than 2.5 t - only for turning left or making a U-turn. Entering the left lane of one-way roads to stop and park is carried out in accordance with paragraph 12.1 of the Rules.

9.5. Vehicles whose speed should not exceed 40 km/h or which for technical reasons cannot reach such a speed must move in the far right lane, except in cases of detour, overtaking or changing lanes before turning left, making a U-turn or stopping in permitted cases on the left side roads.

9.6. If road signs 5.15.1 or 5.15.2 are installed in front of the intersection, movement on tram tracks through the intersection is prohibited.

9.7. If the roadway is divided into stripes by marking lines, the movement of vehicles must be carried out strictly along the designated lanes. It is allowed to drive over broken marking lines only when changing lanes.

9.8. When turning onto a road with reverse traffic, the driver must drive the vehicle in such a way that when leaving the intersection of roadways, the vehicle takes the far right lane. Changing lanes is permitted only after the driver is convinced that traffic in this direction is also permitted in other lanes.

9.9. The movement of vehicles on dividing strips and shoulders, sidewalks and pedestrian paths is prohibited (except for the cases provided for in paragraphs 12.1, 24.2–24.4, 24.7, 25.2 of the Rules), as well as the movement of motor vehicles (except for mopeds) on lanes for cyclists.

9.10. The driver must maintain such a distance from the vehicle in front that would allow him to avoid a collision, as well as the necessary lateral interval to ensure traffic safety.
