Get a short-term visa to Spain. Visa to Spain for Russians: how to get it, how much it costs and other important questions

Spain is a hospitable country with a mild climate and rich history, welcoming hundreds of thousands of tourists all year round, including Russian citizens. To visit it, residents of the Russian Federation require a visa, which is issued when traveling to the states of the Schengen zone. You can obtain permits to cross the border at the country's Consulate General, travel companies or special centers, but for this the applicant needs to know some of the features and nuances of this procedure.

Which visa is better to apply for?

There are several categories of visas that are issued when visiting Spain - they are distinguished depending on the purpose of the visit (guest, business, tourist, etc.), as well as the length of stay of the foreigner in the state.

In addition, there are visas of categories A and B, which are transit and are issued to citizens crossing the border of Spain in order to get to another country, but they are currently not available for citizens of the Russian Federation. When first applying, applicants who have not previously visited EU countries can only apply for a thirty-day visa.

Important: starting from 2015, all citizens who receive visas must undergo a fingerprinting procedure and leave a digital photo at the visa center. The information will be valid for 5 years, after which it will need to be resubmitted.

Terms and price of registration

The processing time for permits to enter Spain is 5-10 days, but the procedure can take up to 3 months. In some cases, it becomes necessary to bring additional papers, appear for a personal interview, or retake biometric data, so It is better to apply for a visa at least 30 days before the planned trip. The cost of processing documents when submitting them to the Consulate on your own is:

  • for adult applicants 35 euros (mandatory fee);
  • For minor citizens (under 6 years old), application is free.

If you apply for a visa through a specialized center, you will need to pay 20 euros in addition to the consular fee. In urgent cases, when the paperwork must be completed within 5 days, the applicant pays double the price, and if a visa needs to be obtained within 24 hours, courier delivery fees are added to the amount. It should be noted that if the Schengen application is refused, the funds will not be returned.

In addition to children under 6 years of age, the following categories of citizens are exempt from paying fees when preparing documents:

  • disabled applicants who have a disability group, and people accompanying them;
  • close relatives of persons who are residents of EU countries;
  • family members of persons who have a permanent residence permit in Spain.

To be exempt from paying for a visa, you must submit the relevant documents: certificate of disability, passport and other papers confirming relationship, etc.

What documents need to be collected?

To obtain a Spanish visa, the applicant must collect a certain package of documents that must comply with all the rules and conditions of the Consulate.

Table. List of required documents.

DocumentRequirements and features

The application form can be filled out on the official website of the visa center, as well as manually or on a computer by downloading the form. It must be filled out in English or Spanish in legible handwriting (if it is submitted in paper form), a signature must be placed at the bottom, and consent to the processing of personal information must be attached to the form.

Two photographs of 35x45 mm, which were taken no later than six months, without borders or rounded corners. The applicant must be photographed alone against a light, plain background, the face is shown in close-up in the photo (at least 70-80% of the entire photo), and the gaze is directed directly at the camera.

The required validity of a foreign passport is at least 3 months after returning from a trip, and the document must have at least two blank pages. The passport must be accompanied by copies of all its significant pages on A4 sheets. In addition, Consulate employees may require copies of your internal passport.

Traveler's checks, a copy of a credit card with a bank statement, or the purchase of currency can serve as confirmation of the fact that the applicant will be able to pay for his stay in Spain. The amount is determined depending on the number of days that the tourist plans to spend in the country - you need to have at least 65 euros per day.

A document confirming the reservation of a hotel or apartment, preferably indicating the address and partial payment. If the tourist is going to stay with relatives or friends, appropriate confirmation is required, accompanied by a copy of the Spanish resident ID card.

Along with the package of required papers, you must submit confirmation of your airline ticket reservation to the Consulate. If the trip will take place in your own car, you need to provide a driver's license, a copy of the technical documents for the car and international insurance.

The document should be drawn up in the HR department in accordance with all the rules: on a form indicating the details of the organization and contact information, with the obligatory registration number and date. In addition, it must indicate the applicant’s length of service and salary. The certificate is signed by the head of the organization and the chief accountant.

An insurance policy for an amount of at least 30 thousand euros, and the validity period of the policy must be two weeks longer than the planned trip.

Important: confirmation of financial guarantees is one of the key conditions for obtaining a visa. If your own funds are not enough, you can provide the Consulate employees with confirmation that all expenses are covered by the inviting person. In addition to the letter, the sponsor must provide a bank statement from his own account or documents confirming the purchase of currency.

In addition to the above documents, some categories of applicants may require additional papers:

It should be noted that the staff of the Spanish mission reserve the right to require additional documents from the applicant or invite him for a personal interview.

For reference: the above package of documents must be submitted to applicants who travel to Spain for tourism purposes or for a short trip for any other purpose. To obtain a work or national visa, you will need other certificates and papers, a list of which can be found on the official website of the country’s Consulate General.

How to apply for a child visa?

The procedure for obtaining a child visa to travel to Spain is similar to obtaining documents for adult applicants, but the packages of documents that must be submitted are slightly different.

Attention: children over 12 years old, like adults, must leave their fingerprint data and a digital photograph at the center when applying for visa documents.

Step-by-step instructions for obtaining a Spanish visa

To facilitate the independent process, it is better for the applicant to follow a certain algorithm, which consists of several stages.

Step 1. Collect all documents, make sure that they comply with the stated rules, and fill out the application.

Step 2. You can make an appointment at a visa center or representative office of Spain - this can be done online, and after making an appointment you must print out the pass.

Step 3. On the appointed day, come to the institution with a package of documents, pay the necessary fees, attach a receipt to the collected papers and hand in the documents.

Step 4. Wait for the decision of the Consulate staff, and the status of the request can be tracked by the registration number on the visa center website. If the status “Located at the Consulate” lasts more than 10 days, you can write an email to the Spanish mission.

If the decision is positive, the applicant will need to appear at the institution to provide biometric material and pick up the completed documents.

Possible reasons for refusal

Each application is considered by embassy staff on an individual basis, therefore the possibility of failure exists in any case. Most often this happens due to the absence of any required documents from the list, the submission of inaccurate information or errors in the papers. Visas are also denied to those who have a criminal record, and in cases where employees suspect that the person intends to stay in the country illegally.

Applications of persons who have not previously traveled to the Schengen area are especially carefully checked - they must be reliable, have a family and a well-paid job. Providing false documents and deliberately false information will result in the applicant being blacklisted and it will be much more difficult for him to obtain permits to enter any of the Schengen countries. Persons who have already received a refusal to issue permits are better off obtaining a new passport.

When a refusal is received, a special mark with Latin letters and numbers is affixed to the passport. If the applicant believes that the negative decision was unfounded, he can file an appeal within two months to the High Court of the capital of Spain and await the judges' conclusions. In some cases, a visa is still provided along with an apology for the inconvenience caused.
