Modal verbs in English are a class of auxiliary verbs. Modal verbs are used to express ability, need, confidence, opportunity, or likelihood. We use modal verbs when we talk about abilities or opportunities, ask or give permission, ask, offer, etc. Modal verbs are not used independently, but only with the infinitive of the main verb as a compound predicate.

Filling out the UK visa application form yourself

To visit the UK, citizens of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other post-Soviet countries, excluding the Baltic countries, need a visa.

For tourist purposes and visiting friends and relatives, a General Visitor is provided. It is also suitable for visiting non-close relatives who have a residence permit or British citizenship and close relatives who do not have a residence permit in the UK.

To visit family members with permanent resident status, a visa is provided for visiting family members. Have the right to it:

  • spouse, a person with whom you are in a civil marriage, father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister;
  • grandfather, grandmother, grandson or granddaughter;
  • the father, mother, brother or sister of your spouse (s) or a person with whom you are in a civil marriage;
  • the spouse of your son or daughter, or a person with whom they are in a civil marriage;
  • adoptive father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister;
  • a person with whom you have lived together for at least 2 years prior to the date of filing your visa application and have had a genuine, developing relationship, similar to the relationship between spouses or common-law spouses.

In order to obtain a visa, you need to prove that you are able to pay for the round trip, pay for your stay in the UK, do not intend to work, study and receive medical treatment in the UK, and are going to return to your homeland.

The questionnaire is filled out in English.

For each document, you must provide the original, a photocopy (this requirement applies to passports - current and old - to photocopy all pages, even blank ones) and a translation into English. Documents such as certificates from the place of work, study, from the bank, etc. are valid for 1 month.

Each translation must contain information about the correspondence between the translation and the original, the date of the translation, the full name of the translator and his contact details. You can do the translation yourself. You do not need to notarize the translations.

Applicants at the Moscow Visa Application Center must submit two sets of supporting documents and one signed application form (plus the first sheet of the application form additionally). There is no need to stick a photo on the profile. This is due to the fact that part of the documents is considered at the consulate in Moscow, and the other part at the visa center in Sheffield

Since the end of March 2014, the company has been accepting and issuing documents for consideration at the British Consulate. The company's website exists so far only in English and raises a lot of complaints.

You can fill out an application for a visa to the UK yourself by registering on the website:

After confirming registration, go to the page for filling in personal data:

In the highlighted box, we are asked whether we have or have had citizenships of other states. Translation of the questionnaire into Russian does not always coincide with the original of the questionnaire.

Another example of inaccurate translation. Rather, the translation is exactly the opposite. We are asked: "Is this your first passport?" We must answer "no" if we already had passports, and "yes" if we did not have passports before.

If we answer "no", we have to click "add" - "add" and you pop-up window fill in the data of previous passports.

Here you need to indicate the address of the hotel in which you will stay, or the address of individuals with whom you will stay

If you have received UK visas in the last 10 years, answer yes and add details of the visas you received.

The highlighted question Have you made an application to the Home Office to remain in the UK "should be read as" Have you applied to stay in the UK "when you were already in the country, for example for political asylum.

In the highlighted question, we are asked if we have been ordered to leave the UK, for example, if a visa has expired

Child details Child details are filled in a pop-up window.

In the first question, the Russian translation should be read with commas. When asked "Type of work undertaken", it is logical to describe your position without reading the Russian translation.

To the question "Do you have savings, properties or other income ..." enter those savings and property that you consider necessary to show, attaching supporting documents with translation to the application form. Having property in your home country and significant savings increases the chance of obtaining a visa.

The question "how much money is allocated to dependents" in the old version of the questionnaire sounded like "how much money do you spend on dependents." Perhaps the same thing is meant now.

In the question about "the total amount of funds that you have for this trip", indicate the amount on the card account, the printout of the movement for which you attach to the application.

On the last page of the questionnaire, you can provide additional information regarding your application. For example, when re-applying after a visa refusal, add explanations to the new documents and circumstances.

Everyone who is going to visit the UK will have to go through the stage of filling out an online application through a special portal.

When filling out the questionnaire, a thousand questions appear how to fill out this or that item. There are many articles and forums on the Internet where knowledgeable people advise others and help find answers to those who do it for the first time.

Although the UK Boarder Agency has created a new portal (https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/product/uk-visit-visa) where you can fill out a questionnaire and pay all fees, it is still possible to complete a UK visa application form in your personal account on the previous website www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk.
It was on the last one that I filled out the questionnaire (March 2017).

In general, the application process for a UK tourist visa is as follows:

1. You register an account on the UK Immigration Service website https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk.

2. Fill in online questionnaire in English.

3. Pay the cost of the visa online with a bank card.

4. Choose the date and time of submission of documents at the end of the process of filling out the visa application form.

5. Print out the completed application form along with confirmation of the time of submission of documents.

6. Register on the Teleperformance Visa Application Center website by choosing the closest Visa Application Center: https://uk.tlscontact.com/en/splash.php.

7. At the appointed time you will be at the UK Visa Application Center to apply for a visa. In addition to the printed questionnaire, you will need to have documents confirming your solvency and connections with the country of residence (supporting documents) - these can be bank statements, documents confirming ownership of real estate, certificates of payroll and other financial documents. Documents that are not in English must be translated into English and the translation must be verified (I put my signature under the transcript).

UK Visa Application Center is located in Moscow at the address: Delta Plaza Business Center, 2nd Syromyatnichesky Lane, Building 1.

Visa documents must be submitted in person, including children under 5 years of age. The Visa Application Center will take your photo and fingerprints. This is a quick and easy procedure - you simply put two fingers, thumb and forefinger, alternately on the scanner window (children under 5 years old do not need to be fingerprinted).

Filling out the form online

Initial data for my questionnaire: a trip with friends, had a UK visa 10 years ago, visited the UK 10 years ago, the work is official, I did the translation of the certificate myself.

Filling out an online application consists of several steps:

Passport / Travel Document Section
Personal Details section
Family Details section
Employment section
Family and Friends section
Medical Treatment Section
Additional Information section

At the last step, you are asked to check again all the data that you filled in on all previous screens and confirm the completed form. Here are screenshots of the last step, looking at which you can understand how to fill out the entire questionnaire online.

Before going to the visa center, do not forget to print the application form, it may contain almost blank sheets and contain only a barcode at the top of the page.

I missed this moment and I had to use paid printing services for 100 rubles per sheet, for a total of 1200 rubles. Be careful when collecting a set of documents for the visa center.

Good luck with your visa and great travel!

A positive result of considering an application is ensured by the fulfillment of the following financial conditions:

  1. Entry into the country is allowed if there are sufficient funds to purchase travel documents.
  2. Travel costs should be commensurate with the income received by the citizen.
  3. The income received needs documentary evidence.
  4. Financial capabilities that allow you to pay for the trip are also confirmed by a document.
  5. Travel funds must be deposited in advance.
  6. The income and savings of a citizen must be proportionate.

If all financial conditions are met, the applicant is more likely to expect a positive decision. Failure to comply with one of the requirements threatens to refuse a visa.

In addition to the financial issue, there are other nuances that affect the outcome of the consideration of the application.

In order to apply for a visa, it is mandatory to provide:

  1. Completed application form in 1 copy, signed and photo of the applicant.
  2. Additional photography. All photographs must be made in color, size 3.5x4.5, like those prepared for applying for a Schengen visa, with a close-up face, without a corner or framing circle, a semicircle.
  3. A passport valid for the period of the planned visit to the country and the presence of at least 1 free page on both sides.
  4. Bank card for prompt payment of the fee charged for the services of the visa center. There are no specific requirements for the type of currency in which funds are deposited to the card account.
  5. A package of supporting documents with obligatory translation into English. There is no requirement for notarization. Attention should be paid to the quality of the translation, for example, the word "help" needs to be correctly correlated with the English "reference", but not in the Latin alphabet of the Russian word.

Required documents for submission with a questionnaire

When submitting a package to a visa center, it is not required to provide:

  • medical insurance;
  • a civil or foreign passport (in the form of a copy), however, if the passports are lost, the attachment of photocopies will help in the examination;
  • a copy of the completed application form;
  • travel documents, reservations (required only when issuing a transit visa).

For a package of documents within the framework of a tourist visa, they prepare:

  1. Information on hotel reservations for accommodation during a visit to the country. The confirmation can be either an official invitation letter, or a regular printout from specialized sites that provide international booking services, or an email confirming the reservation. The main thing is that the letter contains all the information about the upcoming stay and contact information about the hotel.
  2. Documents confirming the applicant's income and his financial capabilities, allowing him to support himself while on a trip. A large number of complaints from the considering party is caused precisely by this point - without confirmation of financial security, which allows a citizen to travel without any problems, a visa will not be issued. An employed person encloses a certificate from the employer about his labor income. For students, retirees, unemployed, you will need to provide certificates of income of the provider.
  3. All certificates, including personal income tax, are subject to translation.

In addition to a certificate of salary indicating the position of the employee, income can be confirmed as follows:

  2. The first page of the passport (copy) of the receiving relative (if you have British citizenship), a copy of the first spread of the Russian passport, the page with the visa (for students, employees, ordinary workers, as well as for persons with a residence permit).
