But in 1906, Wilbur Glenn Voliva led a slightly strange religious sect in power in the city of Zion (Illinois). They all believed that the earth was actually flat, and this doctrine was taught in the schools of Zion. Everyone who entered the city had to adhere to this opinion. Wilbur also believed that the Sun was only 50 kilometers in diameter and only a few thousand kilometers from Earth, not 150 million. Is he crazy? Or not? You see, the same phenomenon that Eratosthenes proposed earlier could support the flat earth theory if the sun were a few hundred kilometers away and 50 kilometers in diameter.
