Pages. Inadequate savings: personal experience of a flight with a transfer Connection in Munich 1 hour

The very first acquaintance with Munich Airport was very high-speed, because my docking in Munich lasted only about 40-35 minutes.

Passport control.

Having taken off from the plane and ran past the baggage claim (only hand luggage for short connections with me) I stumbled into passport control. The border guard girl studied mine with curiosity and close attention and did not understand why she was Portuguese. In my pre-intermediate English, I explained that this was a connecting flight and I was flying to Portugal without stopping in Munich. She asked where I would live, to which I slipped her an invitation from relatives in Portuguese. Seeing the Portuguese language, she was a little confused, but then, pretending to understand everything, she let me into the EU.

German navigation.

My adventures did not end there, because. An airport employee pointed me in the wrong direction to the gate, and I had to navigate the terrain at an incredible speed. Fortunately, I can distinguish the letter B from the letter A, and it’s good that I didn’t listen to this “smart” person. By the way, I did not find the exits immediately for transit, I had to leave my sector for the general area of the airport. In general, it all looked like fun starts))) Then there was an inspection, which, thank God, passed without delay, and running to the exit, all so out of breath, I thought I was late. because

there was NO ONE around except the girl checking the tickets.

Flight boarding.

Seeing my dumbfounded eyes and a frightened look, she reassured me that the landing had not yet begun and I could take a walk. My joy knew no bounds, my heart was beating wildly, but I did not dare to move far from the gate, and I bought myself a snack in the nearest store. Because I heard a lot about food on Air Berlin flights. In the departure hall, there were 2 small duty free shops, where you could buy souvenirs, toys, alcohol, and a snack: water, cookies, juices, chocolate. You had to show your boarding pass to buy.

Landing by the way announced just 15 minutes before departure. And I even got bored while waiting.

Second docking.

In the opposite direction, everything was much more optimistic and joyful, the docking in Munich lasted 3.5 hours and I was able to calmly explore the airport.

Airport building.

It consists of 2 buildings, one receives and sends only Lufthansa, the other all the rest. The airport is very long, it has 2 floors and many corridors. My sector was one of the last and I stomped for 10-15 minutes to shops, a restaurant and an open square. In the center of the airport, life was in full swing, someone booked a car, someone went shopping, someone bought metro tickets, but I wanted to relax in a cafe with a taste of German beer and the same sausages.

Lunch at Munich airport.

AirBrau restaurant menu

On the square, I noticed a restaurant where most of the Germans were sitting, and AirBrau went to it. Despite the huge number of tables, almost all of them were occupied, the waiters ran back and forth with trays of beer and meat dishes. I pointed my finger at the sky, and this “poke” of 12.5 euros turned out to be not the most successful in my life.

I never understood what it was...

You can see the dish in the photo, I will say that only sausage and a little cabbage were edible. But there are no comrades for the taste and color, as they say. A mug of beer 0.3 l. cost 2.45 euros, but the beer was very good. Even I am not a fan of beer, I liked it very much.

Check for lunch

After a delicious lunch, according to the law of Archimedes ... it was early to sleep and I went to the grocery supermarket, which is also located on the square between the two terminals.

Shop at Munich airport.

The Edeka store is located between the two terminals.

The EDEKA store is ideal for shopping for a trip or for a small snack. The store has a huge number of portioned salads, sandwiches and fruits, unfortunately I don’t remember the prices, but Lindt chocolate with pomegranate taste cost 95 cents. I took as a gift 3 tastes that I had not seen with us, a set of fruit salad and went back slowly to my sector.

Shops at Munich Airport

I will say that prices in the airport shops are not cheap, the pillow that I forgot at home cost 23-25 euros, against 10 at Faro airport.

Having found the sector I needed, I went to passport control, where they again found fault with my Portuguese visa, again I had to show the ticket that I was flying from Faro, only then they let me through.

Departure zone.

It was very comfortable to wait for the flight in the departure zone, even a delay of 1.5 hours (a / c S7) did not upset me a bit, but only made me happy. In the center of the hall there is a small cafe with hot meals and coffee to go, 2 duty free, computers for Internet access, and most importantly, comfortable easy chairs! Yes, and with a footrest and a table on the side, in general, as you can see in the photo, I settled down chic under the sun in front of the runway, and nowhere else did I feel so comfortable waiting for a flight. Well, except in Helsinki.

Departure lounge. Footrest and table.

In general, I really liked the airport and the connection in Munich was quite comfortable, there is where to walk, what to see and eat deliciously. I give him a solid 5 and say: "See you again!"

I flew twice - in my opinion, this airport is fundamentally no different from other airports. Orientation is easy enough. There are signs in English. language. The only thing is that you should be stamped there about crossing the Schengen zone.

13.04.2009, 10:40

mmm, thanks, I’m flying from Helsinki, so I’ll already have such a stamp :)) I hope I’ll have time

13.04.2009, 10:49

Have you looked at the time difference correctly?

13.04.2009, 11:49

I’m flying with a Lufthansa to Paris via Munich, the connection time is 30 minutes, I’ll get my luggage only in Paris, so I won’t have to waste time in Germany, but .... it’s scary, I’m afraid I won’t have time ... who flew through Munich, tell me if it’s easy navigate the airport...
I found a diagram of the airport, but I don’t understand its structure ...

IMHO Munich Airport is the most convenient in Germany: support:.
I don't even speak foreign language. I release the nanny with two children through this airport.
it is located almost on the same level - not like Frankfurt, for example.
I myself am now flying through Munich with a connection in 30 minutes. according to the rules of LuftHansa - 30 minutes is the minimum time for which they provide the transit of a passenger and baggage.
You, I understand, have a Schengen visa to exit the airport, and even in the event of a flight delay (anything happens), you will be given a hotel at the expense of LH.
You won't have time to go to the dutik and the cafe;), otherwise there shouldn't be any problems: flower:

Oh, Olly, thank you very much: flower: reassured: 008:
(yes, there is a Schengen, dates will be stamped)

Yes, the minimum connection time at Munich Airport is 30 minutes between "domestic" flights

Is the Munich-Paris flight a home flight?
I have a single ticket "Helsinki-Munich-Paris-Frankfurt-Helsinki", I hope that you can call it home (within the company) ..
Yes.

14.04.2009, 10:52

Maybe someone at the same time will tell you about how and what happens there at the dock, the plane arrives, then they take you to the airport, where you hang out? In the lounge and controlling your next flight?

As I understand it, you don’t need to re-register, you can do it right in Helsinki (check in for both flights at once), or even at home,
Has anyone at home checked in for flights from Helsinki?

14.04.2009, 11:18

Yes, we always check in for Lufthansa flights from home - very convenient. Firstly, you can choose your own seats on the plane, and secondly, you don’t have to choke in the check-in queue, you go to a separate window where you just check in your luggage. Super convenient system, I think.

1 :)) Very convenient!

those. at home on their website you register and print coupons? :009: And then you show them when checking in your luggage and boarding?

Also, please tell me! in May we fly from St. Petersburg to Athens via Munich. the visa will be single-entry Greek (ttt, I hope it will be: 065:: 008:). docking time is 1.5 hours ... will we be able to get out somewhere or sit for us all the time in the transfer zone (or whatever it is called correctly: 008 :) where, at what moment do they put a stamp on crossing the border? The first time we fly in this way - so far I understand the whole process a little: 008:

If you have an hour and a half for a transplant, then you won’t have time to “go out” anywhere !!

and the airport is far from the city...
while you are crossing, while there is a dutik and WC, a cafe, a good pharmacy...
and that's it, flew further: 052:

14.04.2009, 13:41

Yes exactly. To register, you need to know the reservation number. And don't forget to print your boarding pass.
As for the setting of seals, I can’t say, we always fly through X-ki, respectively, we receive seals on the border with Finland. You won't be able to get out of the airport easily. Take a walk there in the shops and cafes - an hour and a half will fly by in a moment.

Are the booking number and ticket number (TICKET NUMBER) the same thing???

14.04.2009, 13:43

You will have enough time to make a transplant. Before the plane lands in Munich, the exact boarding gates for transit passengers will be announced on the plane (if there are any changes). Pleasant flight!

Thanks a lot :flower:

14.04.2009, 14:13

thanks! well, we didn’t plan to go to the city, of course, it’s clear that we won’t have time: 008:
but will you be able to walk around the airport? .. that's good! otherwise I was afraid that I would have to sit in some empty hall in front of the gates ..: 073:

Several dutiks, shops of all sorts of Benetons, Burbury, Mango ..., my favorite cafe "Kruh Bread Brot ...", souvenirs, a pharmacy where I buy everything, even vitamins, there is even a prayer hall ...
and there is also a Valleverde store - these are the most comfortable orthopedic shoes in the world!!!

1.5 hours is enough just to make a transfer and make purchases at Duty Free and other stores at an average speed. If you are making a transplant there for the first time and there will be children with you, there will not be much time at all. Everything is thought out at Munich Airport, but it is quite long ..... the amount of free time will depend on the distance of the transition.

I just flew through Munich - St. Petersburg-Athens - 19800, the same price was in the fall.

Only Malev or Czech Airlines are cheaper to Athens, but they have flights every day.

it is not clear yet at what point we will be stamped that we have entered: 009: I thought that they would put a stamp in Pulkovo that they left Russia, and in Athens - that they entered Greece. and how we will be at the Munich airport without a stamp. :009: Are all these shops, cafes in a closed area?

15.04.2009, 01:03

I hope the author will not be offended that I will ask here - what are the general rules for transplants? Do you go through passport control there or only if you want to go into the city? Do they give out luggage there, and you recheck it yourself, or do they load it from plane to plane? How much time do you need at least if you want to go to the city?

The center of Munich is 40-45 minutes by metro, but you still need to get to this metro and buy a ticket, which will also take at least 20 minutes, or even more, because. you need to either find a cashier, or quickly figure out how to buy a ticket from a machine.

Nobody passes passport control in the Schengen zone, if you got there once - that's it - there will be no more "borders".

When you check in your luggage, they always ask you where it should fly to the final one, usually everyone's luggage flies to their destination. If you said so that the baggage flies to the final destination, that's all - it should be received only there. All luggage movements should not worry you.

15.04.2009, 01:09

15.04.2009, 01:18

Thank you, now I understand about luggage :-)
Not so much about the control - I'm not flying from Helsinki, but from St. Petersburg, so I should probably still go through control upon arrival in the Schengen zone?

Yes once. And if you need to go to the city, then there will be no other border control.

15.04.2009, 01:24

On boarding, you will find out if your luggage is flying to your destination, or if you need to pick it up and then check it in again. This happens if you have two different tickets for your itinerary with a transfer. You will find all this information at check-in for the flight.

15.04.2009, 01:28

That is, in any case, whether I want to go to the city or not, passport control will be on arrival at the transfer airport, and not at the final airport? I apologize if I'm slowing down - I rarely flew from St. Petersburg to Schengen, and never with transfers

Yes. Passport control will be at the Schengen airport. When you go to the desired exit, you will meet passport control - do not pass by!;)

maybe you know then how to indicate the border point of the first entry or transit in the visa application form (Greek), if we fly to Athens through Munich? .. I thought that Athens should be written, but it turns out that this is Munich: 009:

15.04.2009, 01:54

Yes, for some reason I also thought that if you fly further, and you don’t go to the city at the transfer airport, then you don’t need to go through passport control in the transfer, but you go through at the final point. Thanks everyone for the clarification

Logically, you will pass the control upon arrival in Munich (the first city of the European Union that you entered, "flew in" :))), but if you continue to cross the borders of other Schengen countries, you will not need to register... :017 :

This year we are flying from St. Petersburg to Split for the first time with a change in Munich. So many questions arose - I ask for help and advice: flower:
There is a lot of time between connections, about eight hours, I’m not afraid to be late. Do you think things will need to be received and registered again? We fly to Croatia and do not issue visas, can we move freely around the airport (cafes, shops, observation deck), is there a mother and baby room?

Only in the area for non-Schengen passengers.

26.02.2010, 20:21

Only in the area for non-Schengen passengers.

Doesn't sound fun and this area is very small?

26.02.2010, 22:24

In my opinion, it is ordinary, but it is hard to sit there at 8 o'clock.

26.02.2010, 22:27

In my opinion, it is ordinary, but it is hard to sit there at 8 o'clock.

Can you describe in more detail, is it like a waiting room? Is there a cafe there? And what can you do, really get a visa and go for a walk around the city?

26.02.2010, 23:55

27.02.2010, 00:38

there are cafes, duty free shops, that's for sure ..
someone else wrote that there are carousels for children ..

Yes, something like that.

You can also go to the city to the central square, there are trains - about 40-45 minutes. In 8 hours you will be able to look at the central part of the city. Baggage will not be issued to you if the Croatian airport is indicated at the destination and if you have a connecting flight (of the same company, different companies, but members of the alliance). So you won't have suitcases.

The only question about the visa is if you had some kind of Schengen multiple entry visa then this trip to the city center was justified. If there is no visa, then see for yourself whether it is worth paying for a visa for 5 hours.

27.02.2010, 00:42

27.02.2010, 00:53

And if we get a visa and visit Munich, can we then go to Finland on it? Although these are unnecessary thoughts and impulses. My husband dreams of a full-fledged trip to Munich, Nuremberg, Hamburg.

Multiple, yes. But, usually, they don’t give multiple times right away.

The area for transit passengers outside the Schengen area is quite large.
Lots of shops, lots of cafes.
get things right in Split! so everything that your child may need during these 8 hours, take it with you.
perhaps you will receive boarding passes for the Munich-Split flight back in St. Petersburg, or perhaps you will need to get them at the information desk at the Munich airport (it happened to me anyway).
don't forget to check the departure gate number on the board, because they change often!
mother and child room was, but small.

And what can you do, really get a visa and go for a walk around the city?

If you already feel like it, then you need to take a ticket from LH with a stop in Munich for 1-3 days. the ticketing program provides for this.
if you still decide to leave for Munich for a few hours, keep in mind that it will take a lot of time to go through security at the entrance to the airport and then when you go all over Asia and third countries check-in, although you will already have boarding passes.
and the airport is not small!
You can actually go for 4 hours.

27.02.2010, 12:14

Thanks for the answers. Now, although approximately, I know what to prepare for. We’ll think about a trip to the city, but most likely we won’t risk it. so let's go shopping, get acquainted with the example of Munich with the situation at airports.

27.02.2010, 13:57

make Schengen better, for example Finnish. We somehow missed the plane in Vienna, and with our one-time Italian visa we spent more than a day in the NON-Schengen zone ....... I won’t go anywhere else without a multiple-entry visa outside the country with a transfer ....

27.02.2010, 17:08

By the way, great advice! I always even make a visa for a nanny, so that if suddenly bad weather / strike, etc.
and in order to spend the night as a person, we all need to get out of the airport!!
a friend was flying with Air France to Ghana, their plane to Paris was late. and he would sit for two (!) days at the airport, if not for the presence of a Finnish visa, and the Air France hotel paid for it.

27.02.2010, 18:41

Very timely advice, thank you. You won’t even think about such opportunities right away, while there is no experience.

14.02.2011, 11:42

Hello!
I wanted advice on just the topic - a flight from Helsinki to Prague with a change in Munich.
www.skyscanner.ru offers this option:

Check your itinerary
Sat 19 Mar 2011
19:00 HEL Helsinki Vantaa Lufthansa LH2465
20:30 MUC Munich 2h30
Transfer at the airport 0 h 35
21:05 MUC Munich Lufthansa LH1696
22:00 PRG Prague 0 h 55

If I understand correctly, from the moment of landing in Munich to the actual departure, the time is 35 minutes, while the landing ends, it seems, in 30 minutes. That is, provided that the plane from Helsinki moored to the minute, you need to find a place in the remaining five minutes boarding a flight to Prague and how to deal with luggage, which seems unrealistic?
On the other hand, since such a booking option is offered by the system, then everything should be fine?

14.02.2011, 12:02

This is more than enough. In 30 minutes, boarding for Lufthansa flights at Munich Airport allegedly begins (in fact, it usually starts in twenty minutes). 10 minutes before departure time ends.

14.02.2011, 12:10

Thank you for reassuring me :)

14.02.2011, 13:51

And in order to still have time to go through passport control - is enough time 30 minutes?
flight Peter-Munich-Milan

01.03.2011, 17:47

on the plane they announce the exit number for the connecting flight, you will immediately know where to go ...
and even if you are a little late - upon arrival in Munich you will be met and taken by car immediately to the plane to Prague...
no need to check in and think about luggage...

This is more than enough. In 30 minutes, boarding for Lufthansa flights at Munich Airport allegedly begins (in fact, it usually starts in twenty minutes). 10 minutes before departure time ends.
In 35 minutes at Munich Airport you can change seats 3 times and still have time to drink beer.
You do not need to receive your luggage, it will be reloaded without you.
What about passport control? He will be in Munich. And there are queues. You have to run everything.

04.03.2011, 12:11

And with passport control, does Lufthansa sell connections in Munich in 30 minutes? Looks like it's only 35 minutes...
Yes, and with control, you can have time to transfer in 30 minutes, I transferred ..... the docking was about 45 minutes, but the plane from Nice was 15 minutes late .... I even became a little nervous .... but, calmly transferred .. .. they managed to stamp the checks in a fragile way, and get money on them ... and take cognac in a deutik ....
But this is all, of course, about the Luftov connections to Terminal-2, I have never changed to Terminal-1 ... how can I not know ....
.

04.03.2011, 13:00

Well, up there, a person asks about Peter-Munich-Milan with a transfer of 30 minutes. there will be passport control in Munich. So all you have to do is run.

04.03.2011, 13:26

I'm a little nervous, but I still think that everything should go well, since they sell such connections.

Morning Munich - I would not be nervous at all, the plane spends the night in Pulkovo, takes off on time, at Munich airport at this time it is also very uncrowded.

I flew with jebers on the same flight, I didn’t have the feeling that 30 minutes were behind my eyes and behind my ears ... I stood at passport control for about 10 minutes (maybe they were the first to get off the plane and ran first? Then maybe without a queue). Then I went through a second inspection with removing the belt and putting the little things out of my pocket. Although I didn’t go anywhere, Or did I get to the wrong passport control? It also took 10 minutes. Plus, the gate for the flight to Florence was G64 - on the edge of the airport - until I got there .... But I had 2 hours. IMHO - you have to run very briskly and ask to skip the line.
And also from the crowd of Chinese who were with Chumadans 55x45x20, they were taken away as luggage during landing, tags were stuck on the boarding pass, and they were taken away on the airfield

I tell how we were meticulously interrogated at passport control in Munich, where it is cheaper to have a bite to eat at Munich Airport and we go to watch airplanes from a steep observation deck.

interrogations

Every time we fly into Munich airport, we are looked upon as enemies of the people. For the first time we flew to Munich about 8 years ago on a Czech visa, as tickets to Prague were expensive. At passport control, the border guard asked in detail about our route.

So this time, the entire plane from Moscow was diligently interrogated at the border. They talked with each of them for almost 5 minutes, one was even deployed to the end of the queue, something was missing from the documents. They asked to show the booking of return flights, hotel reservations, asked what they would do in Germany. Probably, such an enhanced interrogation is connected with the flow of refugees, but what do we have to do with it?

The turn has come to us. At home, I prudently printed out all the tickets. The hotels were booked only for a few days, I had to correct the dates in the Word for the entire duration of the trip ;-). We were lucky when the border guard found out that we were in Munich only for a few hours on the way to Portugal, he asked to see only return flights. We fly back on Pobeda from Bratislava. By the way, we have Spanish visas, there were no questions about this.

It's a shame when we are considered as people from third world countries. Everyone on the flight was very decent, many went with their families. Citizens of the European Union slipped through the control in a minute, and we stood for more than half an hour.

Observation deck on the runway

We only had 4 hours before departure. This time is not enough to walk around the city, but enough to go to the observation deck.

We checked in for a flight to Faro, checked in our luggage and went light to see the airplanes.

As you exit the terminal, turn left onto the highway. Then head along the runway. At the end you will find a lookout in the form of a pyramid.

Entrance to the observation deck costs €1. The whole journey takes about 20 minutes = 1.5 km.

What is visible?

Now let's just admire the airplanes.

Seen enough? Now you can eat

Park Besucherhügel

There is an inexpensive cafe in the park. If at the airport the dishes are about €16, then here - €8-11.

Around the cafe are old planes. For an additional fee, they are allowed inside.

If you have a transfer in Munich for a few hours and the weather is good outside, then be sure to go to this site.

This is a first-person story with impressions of short and long transfers. Not without advice either. If you have not yet flown with transfers, then perhaps we can save you from a fatal mistake. Or just make the “whites” laugh with their problems.

Too short transfer in Frankfurt

July 2017. Flight Moscow - Frankfurt - Amsterdam. Transfer 1 hour.

What drove me

It seemed that a short transplant - a brilliant idea. You can save 10 thousand on tickets and at the same time not spend a lot of time at the airport.

How it was

According to Murphy's law, our flight from Moscow was delayed. You experience a very interesting attraction of emotions when the plane to Amsterdam takes off in 5 minutes, and you are still in the air and have not even crossed half the way to Frankfurt.

The stewards did not want to answer questions not related to food and drinks, and pretended that I was asking them about my personal life. There were even suggestions that we know different English.

As soon as we finally landed, I immediately turned on the phone to find some article (like this one) and figure out what to do. It’s good that the airline of both flights was the same: a message immediately arrived with information about the departure to Amsterdam and a new ticket.

Just great. Only here in Frankfurt we landed around 10 pm. And I'm leaving at 8 am the next day, because the flight I missed was the last one. Great time saver, dude.

Upon arrival, we (a group of tired, swearing travelers) found ourselves in a deserted part of the airport, but it was worth going a little further - here it is, a huge crowd, which also did not succeed in transfers due to the fault of the company.

It was terribly hot, the cafeterias were no longer open (at 10 pm). Water machines too. Around only hard fucking dick and other variations of curses that have replenished my English vocabulary.

Then I stood in line for 2 hours to get ... a ticket for the queue for a voucher! According to the ticket, there were 89 people in front of me. At first I thought it was easier to hang out at the airport than to go through all this. But I hardly managed to sleep, and I would have lost another half day (out of 4) in Amsterdam.

Then they brought a lot of different water and sweets. I decided that I would be everything.

As a result, they gave a voucher for a hotel near the airport, checked in for a flight, handed a boarding pass and told where to stomp to get on the bus to the hotel.

By the way, they tried to hide the brochure and information about how and where to write in order to receive monetary compensation. They took away the old boarding pass from one girl and tore it apart (and it is really needed to get the money).

I found out about everything in detail, collected all the pieces of paper in a separate place, but at the time of writing this article (September) I had not done anything. In such matters, I am not a fighter, but rather a whiner and a bleeder, who will be helped only out of pity. I can't even deal with the cashier at Pyaterochka. Don't be like that.

It was necessary to divide a long story with a heading

When I got to the bus stop, I immediately remembered this joke from GTA about "Listen, I'm in the middle of a big shit right now." There were about 100,500 people, about zero buses.

When the next bus drove up, it was occupied by the Chinese, with whom it is difficult to compete in terms of elbow fights in line. And now it's one in the morning, and I'm not at the hotel yet. Get up at 5.

When I was already desperate and just sat down in my pajama pants on the curb, an airport worker ran up to me. Even Johnson's baby does not protect her cheeks from tears like this guy who said that there is 1 more place in a free taxi.

The hotel ended up being a 15-minute drive from the airport, the room was cool, we woke up in the morning for the bus. I thought about getting up a little earlier to start hating the airline, because I was afraid that there would not be enough time for this during the day. But the breakfast was too tasty and the sunrise was too beautiful.

What should I do if I miss my connecting flight?

As you can see, this is all solvable - long and nervous, but solvable. It is important that both flights are from the same company. Otherwise, the task will become at least 2 times more difficult.

There is always a chance to be late for a connecting flight due to your own fault - you do not know English well, the queue was too long, or you yourself were very blunt. In this case, you need to run to the airline representative and ask to take you on board, if it is still possible. Most likely, you will be taken, as it is simply unrealistic to be very late if the first plane arrives on time.

Suppose that with you the impossible becomes possible. You late. If you have a business class, then you should not worry. With a ticket purchased at a special fare or an economy class ticket, things are different. You will have to pay a fine or even buy a new ticket.

Should I fly with a short layover?

If you have a long vacation ahead of you, then nothing bad will happen. At least - you will lose half a day, but you will gain experience and a history that makes you an interesting conversationalist. Maximum - buy another ticket.

Here is a list of circumstances under which it is absolutely not worth flying with short transfers:

  • You are flying with children.
  • You have a limited budget.
  • You fly for 3-5 days.
  • You don't know English well.

Too long transfer in Munich

July 2017. Amsterdam - Munich - Moscow. Transfer 9 hours.

What drove me

“Fool, the ticket is cheaper, and there are more countries. You can walk around the city all day.

Transfer flight: how it was

Getting around at Munich Airport was easy - there are signs and signs everywhere. In order not to carry a heavy backpack everywhere (yes, I am one of them), it was decided to give it to the storage room. Storage of a bag up to 5 kg - € 3.5 per day. Walking light around the city is priceless.

After reading a bunch of forums where the information is chaotic and chaotic, I managed to find out that the best way to get to the city is by train.

I bought a ticket without difficulty in the machine, there was no queue. Ideally.

I got to the main square Marienplatz in 40 minutes and went for a walk.

At first everything went well. Then I caught myself thinking that I had already gone around everything in the district, there was too little time to “go away”, and there was too much time to continue walking around the return point or sitting in a cafe.

Plus I'm tired and generally bored. As a result, I returned to the airport and stuck there for another four hours. Correction: it was the longest four hours.

If you want the same: useful info

Luggage storage is located in the central area (Z), level 03. Follow the signs with the word "Bulky Luggage". "Bulki" is bulky luggage.

The location of another camera is difficult to describe, it is better to ask at the information desk (which I did). If you understand correctly what the airport employee will tell you, then soon you should find a room on the way, separated by transparent walls. There are also computers and the Internet, but I did not use them.

Bag weightPrice per day
up to 5 kg€ 3,5
up to 20 kg (up to 90 x 60 x 30 cm)€ 4,5

I was advised to check my luggage in a cell at the station, but there is no point in this. First of all, I don't trust robots (damn Decepticons). Secondly, it is strange to drag your bag to the station and be surprised that all the cells are occupied.

Near the "Bulki" there are vending machines where you can buy a train ticket to the city. Recognize them by their badge with a white letter S on a green background and the inscription Bahn Munchen.

One train ticket costs 12 euros. But if you are two, three, four or five, then it is more profitable to take the Airport-City-Day-Ticket Group. It costs 22.30 euros and will allow you all to ride the whole day there and back. And on the subway too.

You need to take the S8 train to the main site. There is also S1, but it is longer and it can be confusing on the way back. Better keep your head down and remember only S8.

The interval between departures is 20 minutes. The station is located right at the airport, you need to look for it according to the signs, of which there are many.

Should I fly with a long transfer?

If you have thoughts like “Why should I go somewhere, this is an additional expense. I’d rather wait at the airport,” then you are mistaken. It is not known how much you will spend waiting and being surrounded by so many sausage shops.

It is definitely worth deciding on a long transplant if:

  • The city where the transfer is planned does not cause much interest and you would not want to go to it on purpose.
  • You know how to accurately calculate the time, plan routes and in general you are a control freak.
  • Life is a fun carnival.

Long transfers are not for you if:

  • You are constantly afraid of being late, nervous and unable to let go of the situation.
  • You are traveling with small children.

I hope that the article turned out to be useful and that you do not get into the same troubles, but will approach planning your trip wisely.

You will surely visit Franz Josef Strauss Airport (MUC, EDDM) in Munich by flying abroad with Lufthansa flights: this, together with Frankfurt, is the largest hub of the German national air carrier with an impressive number of destinations: with transfers from here by Lufthansa itself, as well as others With Star Alliance airlines, you can fly almost anywhere: to Europe, to Asia, and to America. True, there are much more European flights here than transcontinental ones, unlike Frankfurt.

The main terminal for Star Alliance is Terminal 2, opened in 2003; other airlines, including discounters, fly from Terminal 1.

The terminal has an unusual architecture: there is no division into departure and arrival zones, that is, when flying, say, inside the Schengen zone, after leaving the plane, you will immediately find yourself in the gate area and, if you have a boarding pass, you can immediately transfer to another plane without unnecessary inspections , which ensures a very short minimum docking time. There may not even be staff at the gates: access to the aircraft is carried out by applying a boarding pass to the turnstile. For obvious reasons, this does not apply to flights from Russia.

As befits a hub, a lot has been done here for a comfortable waiting for a connecting flight. Benches are plentiful in the long gallery with teleport exits, and with built-in sockets for charging mobile devices. There are also several separate recreation areas with reclining chairs, where you can sleep comfortably no worse than in a business lounge. Moreover, there is information about providing passengers with baby cots, but we have not tested this service: you should contact the information desk.

There is free Wi-Fi throughout the airport.

Before the screening area on the second floor, there is a large food court with several restaurants with approximately the same price level; in some of them, in particular, in Maredo, there is a buffet with an unlimited number of approaches for 10 euros. The choice of dishes here, unfortunately, is small, but if you are faced with the task of eating before a long flight, then this opportunity will come in handy.

Free coffee machines are also installed right next to the gates, so you can always have a hot drink.

Just do not get carried away with food: despite the fact that the airport looks empty, this is a deceptive impression. So, at passport control when flying outside the Schengen zone, in particular, to Russia, you can easily lose both 20 and 30 minutes - there are few booths for transfer passengers, but it happens that a lot of people transfer to different flights, and the Boeing that has arrived 747, full of Chinese, can spoil your nerves: in order not to be late for a flight, you will either have to ask you to skip the line, or get into it with an impudent expression on your face, since there are no alternative ways to get through passport control even for business class passengers and other important people .

If you have a lot of time, be sure to visit the Skywalk - a tour gallery on the 4th floor (you can go to it from the food court). The glazed passage is located above all the premises of the terminal and is equipped with explanatory signs indicating where everything is located: here is passport control, here is a security check, and so on. The corridor ends with a panoramic terrace overlooking the platform. It’s convenient to watch takeoffs and landings here only with binoculars, but you can follow the taxiing of planes along the platform, towing, unloading and loading luggage for about the same time as looking at fire and water: there are a lot of planes, so the process is very entertaining. Moreover, here and there are explanatory signs describing what, how and why is happening here. So the spotters may not be particularly interested, but it's worth going to broaden your general horizons. And, of course, you should definitely go here with your kids: you can definitely keep your kid busy while waiting for the next flight, it's much better than watching stupid cartoons on your iPad. Access to the Skywalk is free.

However, the list of attractions does not end there. So, on the territory of the airport to the west of terminal 1 there is also a Visitor's park (Besucherpark), where a small aircraft museum is located (in particular, you can look at the Douglas DC-3, Super Constellation and Ju-52 - the latter, by the way, are still used Lufthansa on short regional routes. There is also a cinema where films about aviation are played, minigolf for 18 lanes (Germans generally love minigolf, almost every village has it) for 3.5 euros and an observation deck 28 meters high on an artificial hill .

On the third floor there is also Simmer's dream - a Boeing-737NG flight simulator with a real cockpit; prices start at 79 euros for half an hour, and you can fly for an hour for 109 euros.

And if you know German, then you can go on a tour of the airport (from a clean zone) - you will be shown the platforms of both terminals, fire stations, hangars, a fuel filling complex, etc. On weekdays, tours are held at 11:30 and 13:30, on weekends there is a third slot at 15:30. Bookings must be made in advance by email. [email protected]. You can get from the airport to the city,
