Where to go to work after 50. How to find a job for a fifty-year-old: recommendations

On the instructions of the editors, the columnist for RG Weeks turned into an unemployed person for a month: first, a 59-year-old manager, then a 54-year-old female accountant.

The age of fictional characters is determined by the task: to assess the employment prospects of a man and a woman a year before retirement age. Why did I register two mailboxes on Mail.ru, where offers from intermediary agencies and direct employers would come, came up with a typical resume questionnaire and registered on Superjob.ru, which promises to bring it together with 400,000 employer companies.

Unemployed - to the cavalry

According to the first legend, I am an aircraft engineer, I graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute, but, like hundreds of thousands of people, I hardly worked in my specialty. Traded, was in charge of a small car service. Not a parasite, but there weren’t enough stars from the career horizon either. By the way, the resume is real: a collective image of the biographies of acquaintances and friends.

What do I want? Salary of 40 thousand, ready to work (selection from the list offered on the site) in security, tourism, hotel business, catering, I will not refuse the civil service either. Motivation? And the money itself will not interfere, and it simply intends, in full accordance with the spirit of the times, to extend social activity as much as possible.

As expected, I rewrite from other people's resumes: "Able to learn quickly, sociable, hardworking, loyal." Well, I'm lying a little from myself: "Conflict-free, polite, extremely efficient."

In a month I received up to fifty offers. An amazing choice: they called the police as a cavalryman, a phonoscopist (an expert on phonograms), a loader, a confectioner, a system administrator. But most often the manager - 15 proposals. Basically, we need sales managers, less - for working with clients and administration.

Typical offer: salary of 30 thousand plus interest. Some promised registration according to the Labor Code. Only here is one "but": age from 22 to 30 years. I wrote in the summary: 59 years! So why are they sending me this? In general, be prepared: start looking for a job, offers will simply fall in, but the lion's share is not about you. As if teasing. Or they bully.

True, a vacancy for an administrative manager in a travel agency flashed in the stream: they promise 32 - 62 thousand rubles. Tasks: to manage the personnel of the department, to negotiate, to accompany the contracts. Take up to 55 years. Although, who knows, suddenly the employer will have mercy, turn a blind eye to a few "extra" years.

The second most demanded profession: waiters, bartenders and cooks - 12 offers. Alas, most of the vacancies are also with age restrictions: waiters are needed no older than 30, bartenders - up to 35, cooks - up to 45 years.

Only in the Moscow region did one employer agree to hire a pastry chef under the age of 50. The salary, however, was classified.

But the most original and unexpected vacancy, of course, is a rider on a police horse. The operational police regiment hires citizens for sergeant positions, seduces with stable earnings of 33-50 thousand, plus generous bonuses and allowances, free uniforms, a saddle and spurs. Work outdoors, with people. But again the same thing: age - from 18 to 35 years. I'm flying again. Sad.

To gray hair

Of the 50 proposals for the age limit, I go through only four vacancies:

1Rendering Engineer for a maintenance and engineering systems design company. The salary is not reported. Job responsibilities: designing projects of low-voltage security systems.

2Specialist in the bank to arrange business trips for employees, obtain visas, book hotels. Salary: 30-42 thousand plus bonuses and payments for significant dates, insurance. Requirements: higher education, fluent English.

3System administrator in a payment systems company, salary from 50 thousand per month. Job responsibilities: support for nix services, writing scripts to optimize the operation of server applications, maintaining a backup system. But I honestly indicated in my resume that my computer knowledge is limited to Microsoft Office and Internet surfing. Well, I can also surf the social networks. What other scripts, nix services and backup systems are there?!

4KRO specialist in a large food company. Simply put, this is something like an auditor in a network of discounters, supermarkets and hypermarkets - to control the acceptance of goods, identify damage and lost profits. Requirements: similar work experience from two years, inventory skills, secondary specialized education. Payment by agreement.

In all four cases, the employer in the "age" column wrote the coveted lines: "Doesn't matter."

In general, before it's too late, deepen your English, study low-voltage systems, write scripts and train to identify lost profits. Otherwise, in retirement, pardon the sad pun, you will have to live in retirement.

Marry the Chief Accountant

But the 54-year-old accountant got a much more difficult test: he had to choose from 1.4 thousand vacancies! And this is for a month. Relatives and friends, including professional accountants, were mobilized to analyze such a number of proposals.

The result is this: as in the first case, most vacancies are limited to 30-45 years of age. But in every third letter, age did not matter. And there are hundreds of proposals.

For example, I will give two dozen of the most recent "out of age" vacancies. In the salary range from 30 to 50 thousand, deputy employees are required. chief accountant, accountant for the site and an economist, and with sparing requirements: relatively little experience - from two years (less often - from five). Sometimes the employer is satisfied with secondary specialized education.

An applicant for a salary of between 50,000 and 80,000 and the position of chief accountant needs to be proficient in computers, be able to organize tax accounting from scratch, know labor and tax laws, basic English, and be prepared for business trips.

A salary of 100-150 thousand shines for leading tax consultants, auditors and directors of audit companies. But the requirements are appropriate: knowledge of English at the level of reading financial documentation; the ability to process a large amount of information in a short time, the presence of an auditor qualification certificate; Experience in managing a department or department with a staff of at least 10 people.

An important caveat: all this should not be understood as a direct job offer. In the best case, you still have to successfully pass the interview, in the worst case, send the employer a more detailed resume, win the competition with the participation of other applicants, after which they will still be sent for an interview.

But who promised an easy life?

The big disproportion between the offer to the man and the woman is striking. But there is no gender discrimination here. It's just a matter of professional skills. If a qualified male specialist were looking for a job, the flood of vacancies would fall into his box.

Judging by the databases, today there are good chances of finding a well-paid job (from 60-80 thousand rubles) for an auditor, HR director (personnel management), logistician, programmer or brand manager, even if he is a man of pre-retirement age. And, on the contrary, the elderly cloakroom attendant, librarian and stenographer have little chance. In general, women among the unemployed in Moscow - 55%.

Fact

The officially registered unemployed aged 60 and over in Moscow is 0.1%. At the pre-retirement age (55-59 years) they are already 11%. And the vast majority of the unemployed - over 70% - from 30 to 54 years.

Specifically

There are more than necessary in Moscow (that is, there are more unemployed than vacancies):

photographers, accountants, librarians, bibliographers, archivists, proofreaders, secretaries, stenographers, researchers, dispatchers, printers, administrators, headwaiters, cloakroom attendants.

And Moscow needs...

drivers of buses, trolleybuses, trams and cleaning machines, masons, civil and energy engineers, plasterers, all kinds of agents (commercial, advertising, insurance and trade), dishwashers, painters, passport officers, pharmacists, pharmacists, landscaping workers, welders, weavers , knitters, doctors, helpers, translators, catering workers, nurses, machine operators, carpenters and rationers.

From the report of the Department of Labor and Employment of the City of Moscow for the first half of 2011

It has long been no secret to anyone that finding a job at the age of 50 is almost impossible. How much indignation we heard from applicants calling the editorial office with complaints. Well, employers do not want to get involved with the pre-retirement age, and that's it! No matter how good a person feels, no matter how responsible he is, no matter how well he knows his job, the result is always the same - the employer will choose the younger one from several candidates. Even if not such an experienced, not obligatory, not responsible applicant. WHY? Our colleagues from Komsomolskaya Pravda also tried to find an answer to this question.

“Looking for a job at 50? Yes, you are crazy!”

Office workers over forty are not needed! So they answered in the offices of the correspondent of "KP" Daria Zavgorodnya, who presented herself as a respectable lady
Daria ZAVGORODNYAYA, Photo by Oleg RUKAVITSYN and ITAR-TASS. - 15.04.2010
The crisis has survived from the labor family of two million Russians, according to the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia. Hidden unemployment in the country is already seven million. The World Bank predicts that soon the whole of St. Petersburg will be populated with an excess human resource. And enough for Moscow. And experts emphasize: it is especially hard for the elderly at this time. These, they say, will be reduced in the forefront. That's really in the State Duma introduced a bill punishing the ruble for labor discrimination. Now the employer cannot find fault with the age of the employee. "Komsomolskaya Pravda" dared to find out whether the abyss of "elderly" unemployment is as gloomy as it is painted.

Job sites are a bustling business. “Do you have young, athletic couriers?”, “I am looking for a mature, strong accountant!”, “But who is a smart programmer!” Managers and secretaries are the most salable commodity. True, oil has risen in price, revived the labor market, but people have remained cheap. The harsh memory of the crisis is kept by the price tags of salaries. Two years ago, managers were generously paid 80 thousand each, now they have become more modest: “15 tons plus bonuses” are promised in various small “horns and hooves”. Reputable companies bashfully hush up the issue of wages. "Tyr-pyr-banks" enter cautiously: "We need a leading specialist in the sales department, the salary is according to the dog.". I smoked a cigarette to sound older and entered the market economy as a 52-year-old unemployed woman.

My hungry eyes snatched out of the stream the vacancy for a sales manager at a confectionery factory. I bravely dialed the number.

I sent you my resume...

He will be considered.

Yes, I’m 52 years old ... - I answered with a hoarse, timid contralto.

Do you have work experience? .. - the young lady also became shy for some reason. Apparently, my truthfulness impressed her with a slight mental retardation.

O! Almost thirty years of work experience! - I proudly announced, completely convincing the girl of my dementia.

Our leadership requires up to 40 years, - she chirped and hung up.

At the kitchen furniture factory, luck almost turned to face me, or rather, a facade:

How old are you? Do you have sales experience? the kitchen lady inquired affably.

And then! Thirty years on the market of cordless rotary hammers!

For a fraction of a second, they are silent on the phone, wondering what kind of market it is. But they hire me:

Salary 6 and a half thousand plus 2 percent of sales.

That is, I tirelessly in the sweat of my face will drive headsets for 200 thousand. And I will see only 4 thousand?! No, my skilled labor costs more!

Having failed in the business field, I decided to try my luck in the creative workshop. Maybe creative teams look at age more broadly than these stale office crackers? But it was not there! Creative workers drove me out of their swan camp. They did not take the editor: “We have a young team!” From the place of the curtain designer was refused: “We need the mobility of the soul, do you understand?” I wonder what units measure the mobility of the souls of curtain artists? In drachmas? In ladles? Or at the elbows?

I scored dramatic results: having called 25 employers, I received 24 refusals. Work chairs for 70 thousand - for 35-year-old youth. Great experience is a scarecrow for employers. You call "20 years of experience", "30 years of experience", and the good owner shied away from you, as if from an evil dead man. My elegant age on the phone obviously sounds somehow indecent. The personnel officers suddenly begin to giggle in confusion, as if I didn’t say 52 years old, but joked obscenely.

Before the mind's eye of the author of these lines, a gloomy picture of starvation swept by like a whirlwind. I always thought that 30 years is the time of burning at work. 50 - time to bloom. And here - at least act as a cashier at Auchan (only there they take up to 55) ?! Or maybe go to the dealers of bioadditives for warts ?!

HR Tips: Don't state your age!

According to sociologists, the most unpromising job seekers are citizens under 25 and over 40. Old and young fuss and freak out on Internet forums. Ask for advice from HR and employers. And they give advice ... do not indicate the age in the questionnaire, lie on the phone, in general, hide the truth to the bitter end. Or go to the public sector - wages are lower there, but social guarantees and stability. A study of several virtual discussions showed that employers' perception of workers in their forties is quite heartbreaking:

this is a loser who failed to take a stable position (open his own business, become a high boss). This opinion is expressed mainly by young careerists;

he is poorly trained, dull, slow;

looks lousy (“the young team is pleased to see their own kind”);

does not speak foreign languages;

often sick.

Indeed, a dubious sight.

Moreover, cadre workers immediately, on the forums, admit: this set of stereotypes is similar to a real portrait of an average applicant over 40, like Prince Charles is like the Little Prince. During the virtual debate, something else is revealed: discrimination against 40-year-olds relies mainly ... on personal "cockroaches" of employers.

Youth wins in the labor market.

Don't stand like that, don't whistle like that...

That's why managers actually reject "age" employees.

It’s embarrassing to command elders: “How am I going to yell obscenities at him when he is good for my father?”, “For example, a man of 40 years old, the CEO of a large company - he has a limitation -

38 years. Younger employees add authority to him.” “It is especially funny to read about non-circular restrictions ... up to 37 years old, up to 46 ... up to 32 ... What caused them - yes, only the complexes of employers who are 38 ... 48 ... 35, and they are afraid to manage people older than themselves.”

Looking for a mistress. An executive who recruits employees himself writes: “By the way, I’m sure of what: the age limit for women is a subconscious search for a potential mistress. Here the peasants want to have young and beautiful in their subordination ... "

Doesn't want to pay: specialists are more expensive: “I'm looking for a programmer now. Gena's order (general director in office slang. - Auth.) - candidates under 30 years old. Gena 40. Young, T-shirt, jeans, chubby, like Dima Bilan. Why is such a young employee needed? But because to pay well, the toad strangles. An intelligent specialist 40-50 years old knows everything and wants from 70 thousand. And such people also tend to transfer customers to “personal service”. So I'm looking for a boy who will agree for 30 thousand. But at the same time, he needs to know everything. I was looking for a secretary. The order is generally up to 23 years old, in order to pay 18 thousand. As a result, they took a girl of 25 years old. V / o completed psychological. All students 19 - 22 turned out to be really ignorant. They didn’t print, they couldn’t remember the document.”

He is afraid that the 40-year-old "old man" will not fit into the young team. “Russia is a young business. All of our employees are guys under 30.”

Turned on youth fashion: “My Gena is a peculiar type, an energy vampire of a kind. He immediately dismisses resumes of applicants over forty, although he himself, mind you, does not have a higher education, an excitable hysteroid by psychotype, but a typical huckster. To my supposedly naive question “Why? After all, a good, worthy resume!” answer: “I don’t want the old ones - thinking is not the same!” He himself is my age, 40 years old. In general, it turns out that both I and he are old farts, but he himself does not want to see such people.

Hired young recruits. Well, which of us in our 23 forty-year-old people seemed young? One feature is revealed: not only Genes, overwhelmed by a midlife crisis, but also young personnel secretaries are against the "old men". “Now I’m 31. Already several times when looking for a job I was told: “You are old for us.” Dear young ladies from the other end of the telephone wire, how are you so literate? I'm not talking about all employers, and in general it's not about them, it's more likely that sometimes you can't get to them. It's about those little pussies who portray themselves as specialists in personnel.

“For 45 years, like a sucker, you go around and explain to youngsters who you are and who you worked for. I'm already sick of these mediocrity, from the dominance of stupidity and boorishness. “We were looking for a lawyer for 150,000, in the questionnaire it was up to 45 ... but this agency itself entered it. As a result, they took a 52-year-old woman for 250,000.

Who is weaker before the crisis: "uh" or "jo"?

Since the beginning of the crisis, experts have been nervous: women are being laid off! However, the figures show that with the female panic in the labor market, we are a little overdoing it. In January of this year, among the unemployed of our Federation, Rosstat counted 44.9% of women. This data is confirmed by statistics on job sites: most job search ads are placed by the stronger sex. 63% of resumes “over 45” are male. Moreover, among young people up to 45 "boys" are smaller - 54%.

But women are more likely to register with employment centers - 54.9%. In general, the crisis is hard for everyone. But if a 50-year-old woman can get away from unemployment into "housework" - to sit with her grandchildren, men have nowhere to go. I dare to suggest that it was men over 40 who fell into the hole of the crisis the most.

USEFUL TIPS

Who is the most valuable shot?*

Employers recognize that the doors of firms, offices and factories are wide open for the highest professionals, whether you are at least 30, at least 60. How to become a "piece goods" in the labor market? The statistics give us interesting information.

1. Still get your degree. Sociologists say that for the current owner, an employee's higher education is not a sign of professionalism, but of general cultural development. And they hire comrades who have been proven in the case. A woman with a "crust" gets - do not fall - 60% more than without. The male increase for the university is only 45%. But also not bad. According to the observations of the author of these lines, on employment sites, discrimination is not based on gender and age, but on the basis of a diploma. Give everyone Moscow State University, MGIMO and free English.

2. Learn well! Those who use the knowledge gained in an educational institution earn up to 70% more than those who skipped it.

3. Don't be related to the firm. You will have to forget about a good allowance for sitting by a seat. Women with more than 10 years of experience in one place earn only 5-11% more than starlets. For men, the picture is more variegated: old-timers earn 1-25% higher than newcomers. In short, it’s easier to fill your price on the side than in your “native company”. “The economic value of special experience, as these data show, was almost zero in the middle of the last decade, and remains almost zero at the present time,” the scientists note.

4. Learn languages. A foreign language will surely add 25-30% to your price. Possession in perfection - up to 40.

5. Be true to the profession. Those whose classes coincide with the entry in the diploma have a salary of 15-25% higher than those who do not work according to the diploma. “For about every second Russian worker, his current work activity is in no way connected with the specialty he once acquired, and one in four has never worked in this specialty at all,” the authors of the work say.

6. Improve your skill... By regularly leveling up, you can achieve a double increase. A high-class master receives 50 percent more than his low-skilled colleague.

7. But not education. To receive an allowance, one diploma is enough. The second or third is purely for the soul. Those who are better educated than the job requires receive less. On average by 16%. Sociologists call this "over-education." And this picture is not only in Russia. The phenomenon of Daniela Simidcheva, the smartest unemployed planet, is known all over the world. She has the highest IQ in the world (almost 200). She is an electrical engineer, a production engineer and an English teacher. She has five master's degrees. And she cannot find a job either in her native Bulgaria or abroad. Employers at the sight of her resume are horrified.

*Data from the article "Transformation of human capital in Russian society", Doctor of Economics R.I. Kapelyushnikov, Candidate of Economics A.L. Lukyanova, 2008.

A typical unemployed person in the capital is a woman 45-50 years old. With a secondary or "dead" higher education, in which she never worked. She held a small position like a secretary.

AND AT THIS TIME

Who do we discriminate against?

Associate Professor of Omsk State University Tatyana Stuken analyzed 1074 advertisements in the newspapers "Work and Education", "I Want to Work" (the results were published in the journal "Personnel Management. Personnel Management", 2007, No. 11). And came to the conclusion:

Slightly more than 10% of all ads contain requirements for the gender of the worker. The restrictions apply equally to both men and women.

More than a quarter of vacancies (25.2%) suggest the presence of certain age restrictions. In half of these cases, the employer limits the upper age limit at the level of 30-45 years, in a quarter of cases this bar does not exceed 30 years.

In 5.4% of cases, other signs of discrimination were also noted, among which the most common requirements for external data (attractiveness, height, physique), the presence of a residence permit, and marital status. Each of these options occurs no more than 0.5% of ads.

Is perestroika to blame? In civilized countries, a person's professional flowering falls on 50-55 years. In Russia, for some reason, workers aged 35-40 are considered the most effective. Perestroika, with its cult of youth and novelty, and the patriarchal disunity of generations are also to blame, when parents and a child cannot (and do not want) find a common language, and then the grown-up “child”, having taken a good position, takes out his anger on the entire “indifferent” generation of ancestors . In general, the issue of labor discrimination is long overdue in our complex society. Will the Duma bill help? Let's discuss…

Finding a job after 50 can be a very difficult task.even for those people who have everything in order with health, experience and energy levels. Everything is complicated by the stereotypes of employers who think that at the age of 50 something new can no longer be taught to an employee, and by the fact that, in turn, employees over 50 do not want to “bend in” for someone.

In addition, the older generation, in contrast to the younger ones, find it difficult to create a resume, publish it on special portals (“portals? what is it?”), pass an interview, and in general, understand what kind of work they can count on. In addition, job offers in big cities differ significantly from those in small ones.

Today I will talk about 50 ideas, which will suit people over 50, given all the difficulties that I mentioned. I will give (below) links tohow and where to look for a job after 50,what questions are asked at the interview and how to answer them, and I will show youexamples of people who have achieved great success after 50.

Personal history

My parents are 70 years old in less than two years. Mom no longer works and is actively involved in the upbringing and care of her grandchildren, and her father was actively working until recently. He is a regime man who grew up among the military, and for him work is not only making money, but a way to be in good shape, on the move. Therefore, he is not going to stay at home. However, it has recently been cut, and this has inspired me to write a number of articles and search for ideas on how to find work for those who are in their 50s, 60s and more.

All these articles have been “tested” for adequacy by my parents and my wife :).

“Success is the movement from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm” – Winston Churchill.

Why do people over 50 look for a new, different or extra job?

  • job loss;
  • the need to earn for retirement;
  • a significant decrease in family income;
  • loss of spouse's income (divorce, death, disability);
  • deterioration in the health of family members (spouse, parents, children);
  • moving to another city (to be closer to children, sick parents, etc.);
  • unwillingness to sit and do nothing;
  • desire to be in motion, in good shape;
  • the desire to do what you have always dreamed of.

Benefits for people over 50

  • reliability and stability;
  • experience! experience! and experience! professional and vital;
  • adult children;
  • in some positions, age and the presence of great experience give the necessary authority in the team and among clients (examples: chief engineer at the plant, doctor, lawyer, process engineer, designer, etc.);
  • the ability to work remotely and part-time (which is much cheaper for the employer).

Weak (for the employer) sides of people over 50

  • possible health problems;
  • often on “you” with technology;
  • often (due to lack of training and development) outdated views on life and profession;
  • energy level is lower than in young people;
  • employers believe that at the age of 50, an employee can no longer be taught something new. Workers over 50 have an unwillingness to “bend in” for someone.

Before starting the search

Before you start your search, ask yourself some important questions and write down the answers on paper.. Do not be lazy, do it and do it necessarily on paper, and not in your head.

  • what do i like to do? What could I do (in theory) for free and still have fun doing it?
  • What innate and acquired talents, skills, abilities, experience, connections, hobbies do I have?
  • in what subjects and areas did I shine or excel in school, in my youth and in life?
  • how much money would I like to (really) earn in 3-6 months and in 1-2-3 years? Write down these two numbers.
  • What are my limiting factors? Health, sick relatives, attachment to the place, lack of experience, transport, computer, etc.
  • How many more years do I want to work?

Next, start digging for ideas

which would somehow fit into what you wrote on paper - i.e. that would use your talents, skills and abilities and fit within the limitations.

I will give a list of ideas that, in my opinion, will suit a person in 50-60 years old and which either do not require high qualifications, or use what you have managed to accumulate in a lifetime, or require new knowledge.

Where to look?

The most popular job search portals (in Russia) are:

  • hh.ru
  • superjob.ru
  • avito.ru

The most popular portals (in Russia) for finding customers for your services or products are:

  • avito.ru
  • youdo.com
  • fl.ru
  • freelance.com

If you don't know how to create a resume or ad and publish it on these portals, enter on something like “how to create a resume on hh.ru” or “how to become a performer on youdo.com”, etc.

Courier

If you don't want to sit at home, a courier job might be for you! There are couriers on foot, couriers on their own cars, couriers for the day and with hourly pay (with a free schedule), etc.

Earning on a car

Turn your car into a means of income. You can earn extra money as a taxi driver (, Yandex taxi, etc.) at a time convenient for you, for example, in the mornings on weekends. You can deliver anything: pizza, parcels, mail, etc. You can rent your car to taxi services. You can use it as an advertising medium.

Consultant / Trainer

After 60 years, he has a lot of life and professional experience behind him. If you are an expert or an excellent specialist in some field, you can advise or train younger ones, for money. To help - word of mouth and, again, online labor exchanges, where you can register and automatically or manually (responding to certain orders) search for customers. For example, here's how to do it on youdo.com.

Connections

If you have developed valuable connections in your life, you can bring people with the right contacts for a certain commission from the deals made.

Call center specialist or dispatcher

The work will consist in accepting orders, complaints, advising on emerging issues. At the initial stage, most likely, you will have to devote a lot of time to studying the specifics of the industry. Professional skills are not required, as well as education. The ability to speak, pleasant speech and voice is welcome. Similar work can be done at home.

Teacher / Tutor

If you have or have mastered any craft, profession, hobby, skill, language - you can teach it to other people (for example, teenagers, students, children, etc.).

Clients' houses

There are a large number of services that can be provided at the client's home. Examples might be:

  • babysitting service,
  • cooking food,
  • massage,
  • tutoring,
  • cleaning,
  • caretaker services,
  • housekeeping services,
  • au pair services, etc.

Education

  • mini-kindergarten, mini-day nursery at home for babysitting;
  • creative studio for children;
  • Skype teaching, tutoring in various subjects, etc.

cooking

If you have a question, you can try the following ideas:

  • production of pastries and cakes to order;
  • preparation of festive dishes, salads, etc.;
  • cooking for someone's family for money;
  • organization of feasts and holidays;
  • cooking courses, etc.

Fashion and creativity (more for women):

Needlework (more for women)

  • home seamstress (tailoring to order);
  • atelier for repair or tailoring;
  • production of various jewelry and accessories;
  • training in cutting and sewing;
  • creative needlework courses, etc.

At home or in the garage

I did not come up with these ideas, but found real examples on the Internet and on YouTube.

  • hairdressing salon;
  • beauty salon (manicure, pedicure, hairdressing, tattoo, eyelash extensions, training courses);
  • shoe tailoring;
  • mini smokehouse ;
  • car repair shop and even tire fitting;
  • repair, assembly and restoration of furniture, etc.

Horticulture and animal husbandry

  • breeding plants, seedlings, aquarium fish, etc.;
  • growing organic fruits and vegetables, etc.

Performing work for students

This type of work has always been in demand. Similar activities can be carried out through special sites and freelance exchanges (avito, youdo, etc.).

Translation services

Do you speak the language? Try to find work all through the same freelance sites. This can be work with tourists, translation services, translation of texts, etc.

Accounting services

Are you or have you worked as an accountant before? Try to find remote work through specialized sites, including some of the ones I mentioned above. Accounting for companies is one of the most popular and sought-after types of freelancing. See examples of "remote" .

Babysitting (more for women)

You can find a job as a nanny in a family you do not know, or even in your own (if your children have the desire and opportunity). Peter's examples (look at salaries).

Cooking (more for women)

You can cook food for someone else's family, for the family of your children (if the children have the desire and ability to pay), for office employees (for example, for a company where one of your friends works - yours or your children / acquaintances). Search for the first clients - through acquaintances, through special sites (including the ones I mentioned earlier).

Domestic helpers (for men and women)

Farms can be different: from a private house, commercial property (shop, warehouse, etc.) to real estate complexes. Lifetime and professional service experience in this area is generally welcome. Here are some examples:

Contact your former employer

For various reasons, an employer may not want (or be unable) to keep a pensioner or a person of pre-retirement age in the state. You can approach your former employer with an offer✔ perform work out of state (remotely, i.e. at home),with full or part-time employment (schedule) andfor less money! YOU can offer to do other work (adjacent to what you did before, easier work, etc.). Such an offer can save the employer quite a lot of money.

Move to another city or country

It's not the idea of "work" per se, of course. But! In another city or another country, there may be: ✔ significantly lower living costs; ✔ a significantly higher standard of living (climate, food, medicine, etc.) for the money you earn (pension, rent, child support, etc.); ✔ more job opportunities (for example, when moving to a big city), etc.

Do you own real estate? Rent it out

If you own a property (a room that can be rented out, a second apartment, a garage, etc.) and for some reason it is idle, consider renting it out. This is also a “work”, because. you will need to look for tenants, deal with their settlement and eviction, repair breakdowns, solve problems with neighbors, etc.

For example, in St. Petersburg, a room of 10-15 square meters can be rented out for 100-150-200 dollars per month, depending on the location and some other factors. This is 1-2-3 thousand dollars (or 100-200 thousand rubles) per year.

You can rent an apartment, a room or part of a house on a daily basis, for a long time, for ordinary or visiting people. You can rent housing through services such as avito.ru , , Yandex real estate and dozens of others. How to advertise - look at .

Narrow!

As you age, it can become more difficult to live (maintain and pay) in the large housing (apartment or house) that you currently live in.

Therefore, large housing can be sold and bought, for example, two small ones - to live in one, and rent the second (in another district or even city). Thus, you will reduce your expenses (cash, temporary, labor) on your housing and get an additional source of income.

Another variation on this idea could be- rent out your more expensive housing, and move to a rented, cheaper one yourself. The difference will be your additional income.

And the third version of the same idea- sell more expensive or larger (than you need) housing, buy yourself a more economical one, and you can invest the difference in income-generating instruments (for example, government or corporate bonds). This option may seem a little more complicated and scary for the older generation, but in fact it can give more profitability and bring less headaches (like problems with tenants in the case of renting out real estate).

Create a video tutorial

If you are an expert in some area, record a video course and sell it on special educational sites (see the list of platforms for creating video courses ) or on your website. Here you may need the help of children or grandchildren 🙂 or specialists.

freelancer

I already said what to find desired work after 50 is difficult. You can sit without it from several months to several years. This time can (and should) be used to try out a new, easy online job. Now there are a million free training videos on YouTube and inexpensive courses on the Internet - you can master almost any (simple) profession. Here are examples of job categories (temporary and permanent) on freelance exchanges and online job exchanges.

Personal business

Never before in the history of mankind has it been so cheap to start a business! Finding an idea and “packaging” it into a small website now costs a penny (3-5-10-15 thousand rubles). There are thousands of small business ideas with minimal or no financial outlay! However, this does not mean that they are “free”. Almost any business idea will require a huge amount of time, which you may have now or will soon have. This time is not free.

Your online store

Now you don’t need to be a programmer or a great businessman to do this. You can use ready-made platforms for running a store, where such functions as product placement, a shopping cart, sale of related products, payment acceptance, discounts will be implemented. Some services may even offer delivery and storage of your item.

The most difficult, but not impossible, it is to find the right product or products and learn how to promote them on the Internet. People of all ages cope with this, desire and patience are important. There are a large number of courses where you will be told and shown step by step how to launch your store, how to find products, etc. Here you may need the help of children or grandchildren 🙂 or specialists.

I'm tired of my friend's whining that you can't find a normal clean job for those over 50. I took out my first engineering degree, compiled a resume and - go ahead. My energy was spurred on by the government's recent decision to extend the retirement age for women to 60.

Decide on a job you love

First, decide where you will not work for nothing. So, options like washing, babysitting do not suit me. And if I have a diploma of higher education, then I want a clean job with official employment.

So, I introduce myself to the entire engineer of the standards department, who is about to be laid off. If I just say that I am a mechanical engineer, then they will probably offer a job in a car service - there are a lot of vacancies. But it is cold and dirty there, and this does not correspond to my ideas about the work of an aged woman.

I keep track of job offers and understand: the work of a logistician, an operator in a call center, an office manager is suitable for me. Although restless, but not dirty mugs from the tables in the pub to collect!

The employment service will help

I start looking traditionally - from the labor exchange, today it is called the State Employment Service. An engineer's diploma, confusion in her eyes, and a tearful story ready made the inspector happy - she helped as much as she could. I had to run around with directions around the city: somewhere the place was already taken, somewhere the conditions were onerous - the amount of work was five times higher than the proposed salary or it was inconvenient to get there.

Two months flew by quickly in search. In reality, she could retrain and go to work: as a drawing teacher in a college (2000 UAH), a design engineer (2300 UAH), a secretary (2000 UAH), an accountant (from 2200 UAH), a trolleybus or tram driver. By the way, the need for drivers in the capital is huge and their salary is not bad (3000 - 4500 UAH per month). But a state of health can become an obstacle to such employment - a positive conclusion from the medical board will be required.

Better choice online

Internet sites are the most popular way to find a normal job. Yes, indeed, vacancies are full of wishes of the age of up to 45 years. I ask right now:

And if I have more, will you take it?

Sometimes they said goodbye right away, but more often they asked what I could do.

One contact girl answered simply:

Yes, we don’t care, it’s just worth the count - and they threw the number that came to mind. The main thing is that you get the job done.

An optimistic dialogue took place with the head of one online store, Alexei Sergeevich, who was looking for an operator in the call center:

We need an energetic person to quickly respond to calls.

I immediately went on the verbal offensive:

I remember different information well, I have a photographic memory, and I am accurate in calculations. I also have experience in resolving conflict situations, I quickly type texts.

And here is the desired answer:

Come to the interview, and if you amaze me with your energy, I will definitely take it.

Perseverance won - the position with a salary of 4,000 hryvnia and a 5 percent bonus was mine! They also offered work in other private enterprises. Here are the vacancies I could apply for: call-center operator in a transport company (UAH 3,500). There are also many offers with different conditions for the position of administrator in a sports, dance, aqua club (2000-4000 UAH). This is usually work for 12 hours and often until midnight. They also offered an administrator position in a mini-coffee shop, a restaurant, a hotel, a cosmetology center. Payment is often weekly (from 1500 UAH). But in this case, in addition to the ability to communicate with customers and correct speech, it is very important to have a representative appearance. This does not mean model appearance, but grooming and smiling.

Don't stay idle

If you act tactfully and with pressure, then the employer will not dare to refuse a personal meeting. Tell us that you know a lot, that you will benefit this particular company, that you are young at heart and energetic. Employment statistics are as follows: 10 people responded to 100 resumes sent. Of these, two firms agreed to take on a trial period.

Competently

Tamara Kharitonova, head of the employment assistance department of the city employment center in Kiev:

If you do not yet have a suitable job, then the employment service will help you start your own business. By law, it is possible to pay unemployment benefits in advance for a year in advance in one payment. With an average allowance of 4000 UAH. per month for 11 months you get more than 40,000 UAH. With this kind of money, it is easy to open a shop or a service company. And in order for the employment service to make such a decision, its employees must make sure that the person has been registered with the employment center for a month and is actively looking for work.

There is another convenient option: the employer hires a person on the recommendation of the employment service, with which he concludes an agreement. As a result, the employer does not have the right to fire a person for two years, and the service compensates the company for the salary of this person within one year.

There is only one problem for older people - they lack the knowledge and ability to work with modern technology. Let's say you have chosen an option with a decent salary. But the employer refused - he says that there is not enough knowledge. Then ask him to indicate in writing which ones. The employment service will help you with training for the specific requirements of the employer.

And do not despair: in 2011 in Kiev, the State Employment Service helped more than 300 applicants of pre-retirement age and even 20 pensioners find work.

Important

At the end of 2011, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine made changes to the procedure for registration, re-registration and keeping records of job seekers and the unemployed. And now any Ukrainian can apply for employment assistance to the employment center not at the place of registration, but at the place of residence. The only condition: this citizen should not be registered with other employment centers.

5 tips for the job seeker

Alexander GUBENKO, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Senior Researcher, Institute of Psychology. G.S. Kostyuk of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine:

Rule one: mentally prepare for rejection. But be sure that there will definitely be work.

Rule two: mentally imagine a situation of success when communicating with a potential employer, repeat the formulas for success in the morning and before going to bed: I am calm, I will succeed, I am confident in myself.

Rule three: be able to combine energy and assertiveness with modesty when communicating with the employer. The arrogance and impudence produce a repulsive impression.

Rule four: learn to offer yourself. Try to succinctly describe yourself as a person who is energetic, healthy and easily perceives everything new.

Rule Five: Be flexible when negotiating terms of employment. Follow the wishes of the employer. After all, it is better to get a job, demonstrate diligence, and then ask for something.
