Valentin Berestov was born on April 1, 1928 in the family of a teacher. This is probably why he learned to read at the age of 4, which was very early for that time: after all, the twenties of the twentieth century were in the yard. The family of the future poet and writer lived at that time in the Kaluga region, the city of Meshchovsk. The Tureya river flowed in the city, where little Valentine liked to run with his friends. He began writing poetry as a child.

The war found the Berestov family in the same city. Then there was an evacuation and Valentin and his parents ended up in Tashkent. He was 14. I must say that he was very lucky in Tashkent: he met Nadezhda Mandelstam, who introduced him to Anna Akhmatova. Then - a meeting with Korney Chukovsky, who played an important role in the fate of Valentin Berestov.

Chukovsky remained fascinated by the youth. He wrote: “This frail, fourteen-year-old teenager has an enormous range of talent that surprises all connoisseurs. His poems are classic in the best sense of the word, he is endowed with a subtle sense of style and works with equal success in all genres, and this work is combined with high culture, with persistent efficiency. "

In 1944, the Berestov family moved to the Moscow region. Valentin Berestov graduated from the history faculty of Moscow State University, then graduate school at the Institute of Ethnography. In 1946, while still a student, Berestov first went to archaeological excavations (Novgorod, Khorezm). His first publications of adult poems in the Yunost magazine were devoted to this exotic profession and became a favorite topic for parodists.

He published his first works in the Smena magazine in 1946. The first poetry collection “Departure” and the first children's book for preschoolers “About the car” were published in 1957. Then the readers got acquainted with the collections of poems and fairy tales "Happy Summer", "Pictures in Puddles", "Smile" and others.

Valentin Dmitrievich was very interested not only in the work of other writers and poets, but also tried to get to the origins of their talent. No less interesting are his articles about Dahl, Blok, Yesenin, Mandelstam, about Vysotsky. In the literary heritage of Berestov there are also memoirs about childhood, memories of famous contemporaries - Chukovsky, Akhmatova, A. Valentin Dmitrievich Berestov was born on April 1, 1928 in the small town of Meshchovsk, Kaluga region, in the family of a teacher.

As the poet himself said - "a social" half-breed ": one grandmother is a peasant woman, the other is a noblewoman." The father of the future poet himself wrote poetry in his youth and managed to instill in his son a love of reading. The boy learned to read at the age of four.

His life, his books contain many eras and literary genres. Poems, prose, life of Berestov are amazing and wonderful, probably because his main talent is love.

Poetic abilities were discovered in little Vali very early. The first poetic experience ended sadly. For teasing classmates, their author - eight-year-old Berestov - was beaten.

But this did not affect his writing, just new poems were now written in a notebook and kept in a cache.

In 1942, the Berestov family lived in evacuation in Tashkent. Here Valentin Berestov met Anna Akhmatova, Nadezhda Yakovlevna Mandelstam (the wife of the famous poet). But a special role in Berestov's literary biography was played by his meeting with Korney Ivanovich Chukovsky, to whom the fourteen-year-old poet showed his cherished notebook.

In 1944, the Berestov family moved to the Moscow region. In Moscow, Valentin Dmitrievich entered the history faculty of Moscow State University, then went to graduate school at the Institute of Ethnography.

Berestov recalled meeting with Tatyana Alexandrova, which happened 10 years before their marriage. A 30-year-old woman came to him, already a well-known writer and poet, and brought the manuscript in a black folder with lacing. A woman named Nadezhda Yakovlevna taught English at the local Palace of Pioneers. She noticed a capable child, who had been writing poetry for a long time, and took him to her friend, Anna Andreevna ... So Valentin Berestov saw Nadezhda Mandelstam and Anna Akhmatova. And then he met Chukovsky, and it was no longer just a meeting, it was fate. True, Valentin Berestov was distracted from writing for more than ten years in order to complete the history department of Moscow State University, postgraduate studies at the Institute of Ethnography, work on archaeological excavations in Novgorod and Khorezm ... Such a sweeping variety might seem surprising and even strange, if not for one feature, one and only property that brings together all books, all lines, all words and even the smallest commas left on paper by Valentin Berestov into a friendly family.
