  • Some are helped by a cup of custard coffee in the morning;
  • The main rule is moderate nutrition. 5 meals of 250-300 grams each can eliminate bloating forever, unless you have chronic flatulence.

Flatulence occurs when a large amount of gas accumulates in the intestines. This ailment brings a lot of discomfort to a person.

To normalize the digestive system and regain a good mood, you need to know how to quickly get rid of flatulence?

What is this ailment

Flatulence is a condition in which a person's belly swells up. Bloating occurs due to the copious accumulation of gas in the intestines.

The production of gas by the stomach is a natural process of the body's functioning, however, when there is too much of this substance, the digestive system suffers.

As a rule, the problem of flatulence arises in the presence of any pathologies of the digestive system. But gas can accumulate in the stomach for other reasons.

This ailment is widespread. During flatulence, a person's condition deteriorates rapidly. This is due to the constant discomfort he is experiencing.

Both adults and small children suffer from this ailment. That is why everyone needs to know how to get rid of bloating. But first, you should highlight the reasons for its occurrence.

Causes of bloating

If we abstract from the gastrointestinal tract diseases, which could become the reason for the occurrence of flatulence, the following reasons can be distinguished:

  1. The person often talks at the table. When we open our mouth to swallow food, air enters the body. However, when we talk while eating, more air gets into the body. Some of the air does not enter the bloodstream. As a result, gassing occurs.
  2. Improper diet. For example, if a person eats a lot of sweets, the fermentation process begins in his stomach. This leads to poor health and discomfort. Flatulence occurs.
  3. Emotional irritability. Stress and nervous shocks are also often the result of flatulence. The fact is that with a nervous shock, food is not completely digested, and this leads to gas formation.
  4. The person does not follow the food culture. For example, he often eats on the go. Also, flatulence is caused by eating dry food. If you chew food slowly, then flatulence will not occur.
  5. Frequent constipation. With the accumulation of feces in the intestines, stomach bloating occurs.

How to get rid of this ailment

A person can get rid of flatulence using the following methods:

  • Taking medications.
  • Compliance with a diet.
  • Folk remedies.

If bloating gives a person a lot of trouble and discomfort, you want to quickly solve this problem. For this, it is necessary to approach the treatment in a comprehensive manner.

The patient needs to implement all three methods, only then can he count on recovery. Let's talk about each of the treatment methods for this ailment.

Taking medications

In pharmacies, you can find many medicines that normalize the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, and also remove excess gases from the body. What medications for this ailment can be purchased?

Meteospasmil

This medication belongs to antispasmodics. Released in capsules. It helps not only quickly get rid of bloating and remove excess gas, but also reduces the increased tone of intestinal smooth muscles.

Contraindicated in children under 14 years of age, during pregnancy and lactation.

The drug helps not only to remove excess gas, but also to prevent its accumulation in the future. Also, after taking this medication, the patient gets rid of symptoms of flatulence such as belching and nausea.

Meteospazmil should be taken 1 capsule 2-3 times a day before meals.

Motilium

This drug is a central blocker of dopamine receptors. The medicine is dispensed in the form of a suspension and tablets. After a systematic intake of Motilium, flatulence quickly disappears.

The medicine is contraindicated in patients with any diseases of the liver, heart. And also for children under 12 years old, pregnant women and during lactation. Before use, you should consult a specialist.

Taking this drug allows you to get rid of stomach pains that occur during bloating, as well as normalize the digestion.

Motilium is taken in different dosages, depending on age and weight.

Motilak

The action of the drug is due to the blockade of central dopamine receptors. The medication is dispensed in pill form.

It has such contraindications as:

  • Gastrointestinal bleeding;
  • Intestinal obstruction;
  • Children under 1 year old;
  • Pregnancy and lactation.

The action of this medication is aimed at helping the patient to quickly get rid of stomach pains, as well as excess gas. Taking the drug relieves symptoms of the disease such as belching and nausea. The dosage is individual.

Mezim

It is an enzyme preparation. Mizim tablets normalize the work of the gastrointestinal tract. The composition contains enzymes lipase, amylase and protease, which facilitate the digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, which contributes to their more complete absorption in the small intestine.

They help a person get rid of the feeling of heaviness in the stomach. The dosage of the drug is determined individually.

Espumisan

This drug is prescribed not only for adults, but also for children. Espumisan effectively solves the problem of stomach bloating by normalizing peristalsis. The patient, after taking this medication, begins to feel better.

As for the drug treatment of this disease in children under 14 years of age, it is recommended to consult a doctor before prescribing this or that drug to a child.

The doctor will not only select the most effective medicine for treating childhood flatulence, but also determine its dosage.

The parents of the child, in turn, before giving him the medication, should carefully study the instructions. This is necessary to determine contraindications.

Medicines that solve the problem of removing excess gases from the body are divided into the following groups:

  • Medicines aimed at normalizing the digestive process. They also have a positive effect on the work of the intestines, as a result of which its bloating passes.
  • Defoamers. These medicines act directly on the intestinal gas. As a result, a foam sediment occurs on the walls of the stomach. After taking these medications, the total volume of the intestinal contents decreases. Gas absorption is restored.
  • Adsorbents. These drugs adsorb excess gas in the stomach and help remove it from the body. The most widely used adsorbent is activated carbon.

Diet for bloating

If this ailment occurs systematically, while the person does not suffer from any diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, it is worth thinking about proper nutrition. Most likely, his food is not measured.

A person who regularly suffers from bloating is likely to consume large amounts of so-called "unhealthy" foods. We are talking about fast food, dishes cooked in oil, canned food, etc.

You can get rid of this problem only by making significant changes to your diet.

The first step is to exclude from your diet foods that cause gas in the stomach:

  • Beans.
  • Pastries and sweets.
  • Yeast baked goods.
  • Dairy and fermented milk products.
  • Some vegetables: radish, cabbage, turnip and radish.
  • Convenience foods such as purchased dumplings or frozen shrimp.
  • Carbonated drinks.
  • Vegetables: garlic, bell peppers, onions.
  • Harmful substances and dyes. You will also have to give up flavors and food additives.

Also, with this ailment, incompatible foods and products should not be eaten. For example, you cannot eat salted fish and then drink sweet tea. This will lead to even more bloating.

As for sour fruits, such as, for example, apples, their intake should be completely limited in the case when flatulence causes severe pain attacks and colic in the patient.

If a person just feels uncomfortable, sour fruits can be consumed, but in limited quantities. You can eat no more than 1 fruit per day.

Now let's talk about foods that, on the contrary, help remove excess gas from the stomach.

The bloating diet should include boiled foods. You can also steam cook food.

A person suffering from this ailment should drink broths. You can cook them on chicken or beef bones. You should also include in your diet a decoction of dill or parsley.

You should eat green vegetables every day, like lettuce or parsley. After eating, it is recommended to eat fruit.

If it is difficult for a person to completely abandon salt, you need to reduce its amount at least 2 times.

With this ailment, you can not eat too hot food. If the dish has just been cooked, you should wait for it to cool before using it. You can eat the dish after it has cooled down to room temperature.

Hot food, getting into the stomach, in which gas has accumulated, will cause complications. The patient will develop colic and severe pain.

With regard to fatty foods, such as, for example, fried butter or fish, then they should be completely avoided during the diet.

Basic dietary rules for flatulence:

  1. The patient should not overeat.
  2. He must drink at least 2 liters of mineral water per day.
  3. It is recommended to drink a glass of dill broth before meals.
  4. The patient should take food in small portions 5-6 times a day.
  5. It is necessary to establish a meal schedule. You need to enter one regime and stick to it until the end of the diet. For example, the first time a day a person eats at 8 am, and the last one at 19:00.

Folk remedies

It is possible to treat this disease not only with expensive medicines, but also with medicinal plants and herbs. Here are the most effective methods for dealing with flatulence in the intestines:

  • Dill water. Dill infusion has a similar effect on the body. To prepare this medicine, you should mix dill oil with warm water in a ratio of 1 to 10. You need to drink this infusion in small portions 2-3 times during the day. If the attacks of flatulence bring the patient severe discomfort, then the dose of dill water should be increased, increasing the amount taken up to 4 times a day.
  • Mint infusion. Mint can be substituted for yarrow or clover. The water is heated, it is recommended to bring it to a boil. Then, in one glass of boiling water, one spoonful of dry herb is dissolved. One glass of this infusion must be drunk during the day.
  • Dill and chamomile infusion. Dry herbs are mixed in equal amounts. Then they need to be poured with boiling water. The mixture should be infused for 1 hour. Then you need to drink it. 1 glass of such a medicine is drunk per day. It is important to take the infusion cold.
  • Celery infusion. Celery leaves are poured with boiling water. They need to be insisted for a day. Then the infusion is filtered off. Before using the prepared potion, add a spoonful of honey to it. Thanks to this, the taste of the infusion will improve.
  • Lemon balm broth. This is a very effective remedy for relieving the patient of the symptoms of this disease. To prepare it, it is enough to pour 3 tablespoons of lemon balm with 150 milliliters of hot water. After the lemon balm is infused, it is put on the fire and brought to a boil. You need to boil the infusion for 20 minutes, and then filter it. Lemon balm infusion is drunk 2 times a day before meals.
  • Ground ginger. Chop hard ginger. It is recommended to use a combine harvester for this. The result is a ginger mixture, to which you need to add a little honey. The fact is that if there is ginger without sweetening it, a strong burning sensation will appear in a person's mouth. That is why honey is added to ginger puree.
  • Potato juice. Such a juice is prepared from potato tubers. It should be drunk twice a day before morning and evening meals.
  • Caraway. Caraway seeds are poured with boiling water. They should be insisted for 1 hour, after which, drain. You need to use the infusion 3 times a day.

You can also partially relieve the symptoms of the disease with the help of regular sugar. A spoonful of sugar is mixed with aniseed or dill oil. You need to eat it at a time. However, you should not abuse sugar, since you cannot eat sweets during this ailment.

Bloating is a rather unpleasant, unhealthy and unattractive condition. It can be caused by a buildup of gas or fluid in the intestines. Fortunately, bloating can be avoided by making adjustments to your diet. However, if you experience severe symptoms that interfere with your usual lifestyle, see your doctor, as this may indicate the development of more serious medical conditions.

Steps

Medicines

Help your body digest gas-producing vegetables with Beano. It also aids in the digestion of other high fiber foods. Beano reduces gas production during digestion.

    • The drug is available as drops that can be added to food.
    • For best results, take at the beginning of a meal.
  1. If you suspect your body is not absorbing lactose well, help it digest it. Even if you are lactose intolerant, you don't have to completely cut out ice cream and other dairy products. Just take a supplement containing the enzyme lactase with dairy products.

    • Common drugs are Lactaid and Lactraza.
  2. Try simethicone to get rid of the gas. This product is very popular, although scientific studies have not confirmed its effectiveness in combating gases. However, simethicone is found in the following commonly used medications:

    • Gelusil
    • Milanta
    • Milikon
    • Gas-X
  3. Use activated carbon. Although scientists have not proven that activated carbon prevents the formation of gases, this time-tested remedy will not harm you if you follow the measure. Some believe it helps with gas.

Try probiotic supplements. Probiotics are bacteria and yeasts similar to the microorganisms found in your digestive system. By helping with digestion, probiotics can help relieve bloating, which is associated with the following symptoms:

    • Difficulty digesting fiber
    • Diarrhea

    Healthy eating

    1. Avoid fatty foods. Fatty foods take longer for the body to break down and slow down digestion, leading to the formation of gas in the intestines. This is especially true for deep-fried dishes and fast food.

Limit gas-producing foods. Certain foods produce significant amounts of gas when digested. These products include:

      • Legumes
      • Broccoli
      • Brussels sprouts
      • Cabbage
      • Cauliflower
      • Lettuce
      • Certain fruits such as apples, peaches, and pears
      • Replace gassy vegetables with ones that don't make you feel uncomfortable. Experiment with different foods to find the best diet for you.
    2. Reduce your fiber intake. Limit high fiber foods. Digestion of such food increases gas production. These include whole grain breads and bran.

      • If you recently increased the amount of fiber in your diet, reduce it again, and then gradually increase the amount of fiber so that your body has time to get used to the change. This process can take several weeks.
      • If you are taking dietary supplements that are high in fiber and fiber, reduce the amount until the symptoms are better. After that, gradually increase their intake so that your body has time to adapt.
      • In this case, you should reduce the amount of foods such as milk, cheese, sour cream and ice cream in your diet.
    3. Eat yogurt daily to promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. The health of the digestive tract is supported by many different microorganisms involved in the digestive process. Fermented dairy products such as yogurt or kefir normalize the intestinal microflora. This will strengthen your digestive system and prevent bloating from the following:

      • Violation of the intestinal microflora caused by taking antibiotics
      • Irritable bowel syndrome
    4. Eat less salt. Excessive salt intake leads to water retention in the body, which can cause bloating. By reducing the amount of salt in your diet, you will not only make yourself feel better, but also reduce the likelihood of high blood pressure.

      • Generally, a healthy diet contains the right amount of salt. Drink salt in moderation.
      • For an adult, one teaspoon of salt a day is enough. For some disorders and diseases, even this dose is too large.
      • Canned foods, restaurants and fast food outlets are often high in salt. Eat these foods in moderation.
    5. Digestive problems can be caused by difficulty digesting artificial sugar substitutes. Sweeteners added to many foods cause gas and diarrhea in some people. If you suspect that this is possible in your case, carefully study the composition of the products indicated on the package. The following sweeteners are commonly used in confectionery, candy, and chewing gum:

      • Sorbitol
      • Mannit
      • Xylitol
    6. Drink plenty of water to normalize digestion. This will make it easier for your body to flush waste products, soften stools and prevent constipation, and help your body digest fiber.

      • The amount of water you need depends on your level of physical activity, the climate in your area, and your diet.
      • Feeling thirsty indicates that your body is lacking water. When you feel thirsty, try to quench it as soon as possible.
      • Rarely urination and dark or cloudy urine indicate that your body is dehydrated.

    Healthy lifestyle

    1. Strengthen your health with exercise. Sports activities are beneficial for both physical and mental health. With their help, you can strengthen your body, maintain optimal weight, speed up metabolism and improve digestion.

      • Aerobic exercise speeds up the heart rate and promotes the movement of food through the digestive tract. Jogging, brisk walking, swimming, and a variety of sports are good choices.
      • For best results, try to devote at least 75 minutes a week to training; spread this time over several days.
    2. Don't drink too much beer or soda. These drinks contain carbon dioxide, and excessive consumption can lead to a build-up of this gas in your digestive tract.

    3. Do not smoke. When smoking, people swallow air; in addition, smoking is associated with numerous health problems. Even if you have smoked for many years and one day you will quit this bad habit, you will noticeably improve your health and well-being. Smoking increases the risk of cancer in the following digestive organs:

      • Esophagus
      • Oral cavity
      • Bladder
      • Pancreas
      • Kidney
      • Liver
      • Stomach
      • Intestines
    4. Try not to swallow air. Often people swallow air without even noticing it. The most common situations include the following:

      • Absorbing food too quickly. The best way to avoid swallowing air while eating is to eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly. In addition, it will give you the opportunity to fully enjoy your meal.
      • Chewing gum. Chewing gum makes your salivation more active and you have to swallow saliva more often. With saliva, a certain amount of air enters the esophagus.
      • Lollipops. Sucking them also activates salivation, and you have to swallow saliva more often.
      • Drinking through a straw. As you suck in liquid through a straw, you are swallowing quite a lot of air at the same time.
    5. Eat small but frequent meals to prevent constipation. As a result of constipation, gases can become trapped in the digestive tract, causing bloating.

      • The longer the digestive waste remains in the intestines, the more they ferment, while releasing gases.
      • By eating small meals, you protect your digestive system from overload and promote proper digestion of food.

    Reduced stress

    1. Take time to relax. When you are stressed, your body releases hormones that negatively affect digestion. Try to relax after eating to help your digestive system work better. Choose from the many relaxation techniques that work best for you:

      • Reproducing calming images
      • Progressive muscle relaxation, in which you alternately tense and then relax different muscle groups
      • Meditation
      • Massage
      • Tai chi gymnastics
      • Music or art therapy
      • Deep breathing
    2. Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep is bad for your well-being and causes stress, which can negatively affect digestion. Healthy sleep will improve your mood and help you cope with stress more easily.

      • Try to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a day. Some people need 10 hours of sleep every day.
    3. Maintaining good, affectionate relationships with the people around you is beneficial for your physical health as well. Having friendships with nice people can help you relax and overcome stress.

      • Maintain relationships with those close to you through letters, phone calls, and face-to-face meetings. Social relationships have a big impact on well-being and health.
      • If you are experiencing a lack of communication and loneliness, try to make new friends and join a community.

Nowadays, bloating is so common in people of all ages that it has something similar to an "epidemic". And this is not surprising, because from the wrong diet, high levels of stress, taking various medications and daily interaction with toxic waste in the environment, people are increasingly faced with this problem face to face.

When the stomach swells, a person feels uncomfortable, sometimes embarrassing, because suddenly a seething starts in the stomach or suddenly rushes to the toilet, but everything can turn out to be much more serious than you think. This may be due to some serious illness that hides under the guise of flatulence. Bloating is one of the most common symptoms of candidiasis and has been linked to digestive disorders, autoimmune reactions, allergies, and even cancer in some cases.

Simply put, "bloating" refers to the sensation of trapped gas in the digestive system, which swells the belly to an unpleasantly large size. Some people jokingly call such a swollen tummy "pregnant", but there is nothing to laugh about. Bloating is different from belly fat because it is temporary and is caused mainly by build-up gas that stretches the walls of the abdomen, causing it to puff up and stick out.

Fortunately, in most cases, you don't have to worry about bloating. It can be eliminated with small changes in diet and lifestyle, although not always. There may be something big lurking behind a feeling of fullness, flatulence, and pain in the abdomen. If the cause of the bloating has been found, then you need to decide if it is significant enough to see a doctor.

If you have bloating, check for other symptoms, such as:

  • heat
  • skin rash or hives
  • watery eyes, sore throat, or other allergy symptoms
  • constipation or diarrhea
  • nausea or vomiting
  • blood in urine or feces
  • unexplained weight loss
  • problems with going to the toilet
  • pain on palpation of the lymph nodes in the groin, throat, or armpits
  • fatigue
  • attention problems and brain fog
  • irregular critical days
  • haemorrhoids

What causes bloating and gas?

You are probably wondering what causes bloating. There are dozens of different causes of flatulence - allergic reactions, hormonal imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, bowel problems, and more. The number of reasons is great, but having collected more information about the body's response to various foods and circumstances, it will be easier to choose the one that causes the symptoms of bloating in you.

Bloating itself is the result of digestive problems. What's even more confusing is that many different factors affect gut health, its ability to metabolize food properly, and the body's ability to get rid of waste. So many different factors can lead to bloating, including those that seemingly have nothing to do with flatulence, such as sleep quality and stress, for example. This problem can affect everyone at any time.

Most people confuse bloating with excess fat or swelling, but they are not the same thing. Fluid does not linger in the abdomen, unless you have swelling on your face, ankles, and legs and bloating at the same time.

In most cases, the causes of increased gas production in the intestine are: improper digestion of protein (protein food is not digested properly and the fermentation process begins), the inability to completely break down sugar and carbohydrates (enzymes are required to digest some complex sugar compounds, which may not be enough) and intestinal imbalance. microflora. There are trillions of good and bad bacteria in the digestive tract, which constantly fight, and when there are too many "bad bacteria" for one reason or another, a temporary imbalance sets in, which can lead to bloating due to excessive gas production.

If your stomach is constantly swollen and gasses, you need to look for reasons first and determine the very health problem that can cause bloating.

What causes an adult's stomach to swell: 10 possible reasons

1. Digestive disorders

In people with functional gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, and ulcerative colitis, the most common symptoms are bloating, gas, and a large belly. Studies have shown that bloating occurs in 23-96% of people with irritable bowel syndrome, 50% of those with functional dyspepsia, and 56% of those with chronic constipation.

2. Fluid retention (called edema or ascites)

It happens that bodily fluids begin to accumulate throughout the body, including the abdominal and pelvic areas, causing excessive bloating and weight gain. You may notice that some jewelry and clothes have become too small for you, or you sweat more, and your joints ache, your skin has become thicker to the touch. It can be associated with liver disease or even in rare cases with cancer, it can also be a sign of liver failure or hepatitis, the symptoms of which are yellowing of the skin (jaundice), the whites of the eyes, and abdominal pain.

3. Dehydration

Have you ever noticed that if yesterday you ate too much salty food and drank alcohol, today you have symptoms of dehydration and bloating as a result? But the more water you drink, the less likely you are to develop bloating. Dehydration and electrolyte imbalances inhibit digestion and lead to flatulence.

When the body tries to cope with the effects of dehydration, it starts storing water in case the situation happens again, plus you may become constipated. This means that as soon as you start drinking normally, all the liquid begins to accumulate in the abdomen and thighs, and you look slightly swollen.

4. Constipation

This is probably the most obvious reason for bloating - you need to go to the bathroom! Irregular bowel movements can often cause stomach heaviness, pain, discomfort, and bloating. Constipation is caused by poor diet, low fiber intake, low fluid intake, a sedentary or inactive lifestyle, and stress.

5. Food allergies

Food allergies, sensitivities or intolerances (lactose, for example) are often the main causes of gas and bloating. Foods that cause gas are dairy products, foods containing gluten (bread, pasta, rolls, cereals, etc.) and certain types of carbohydrates called FODMAPs ( f fermentable O ligo-, d and-, m onosaccharides and P oliols).

There are dozens of other possible food allergies (shellfish, nuts, eggs), and if your body does not accept any of them, it will let you know. FODMAP carbohydrates are difficult to eliminate from the diet because there are so many of them and each of them is unique in terms of tolerance. An elimination diet can help you identify which foods are causing bloating (apples, avocados, for example) because they are not completely broken down and absorbed.

6. Syndrome of bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine

Small intestine bacterial overgrowth is caused by high levels of abnormal bacteria in the digestive tract, usually found in the intestines (dysbiosis), where they can accumulate due to antibiotics, digestive disorders, or inflammation. As a rule, different strains of bacteria live in the large intestine in strict balance, which helps the absorption of essential nutrients, but when the number of bad bacteria grows, various minor damage to the intestinal walls and other unpleasant symptoms occur. Some foods can cause overgrowth of bad bacteria, which, in turn, multiplying and throwing their waste products directly into the intestines, lead to digestive upset and excessive gas formation.

7. Infection

Bloating and swelling can occur due to various kinds of infections that cause inflammation in the digestive tract and pelvic organs and the production of a large number of white blood cells. At the same time, other symptoms of infection may be present, such as fever, redness and pain, enlarged lymph nodes, which signal the presence of a serious infection in the body.

8. Intestinal obstruction

Sometimes, severe bloating, along with constipation, nausea, and vomiting, may indicate a bowel obstruction due to scar tissue or swelling. When they grow and begin to press on the intestines, "congestion" occurs, and the liquid and stool do not find a natural outlet. If you have come across this, then you will not confuse this ailment with anything, because every trip to the toilet turns into torture.

9. Hormonal changes

PMS is known to cause bloating and digestive problems, as the likelihood of constipation and fluid retention increases during this period. This is common and not a problem until other serious symptoms, such as an irregular menstrual cycle, fibroids, or severe cramps, appear. Bloating before or during a cycle is very common, as is water retention about two weeks before.

What causes bloating in women before, during or after critical days? In the early days of the female cycle, the so-called follicular stage, estrogen levels increase and the walls of the uterus thicken. During ovulation, bloating can become even worse as the amount of blood and fluid in the body increases. If everything functions normally in a woman's reproductive system, then abdominal distention will disappear along with the excess accumulated fluid, blood and dead tissue.

10. Cancer

Cancer is not the main cause of bloating, but flatulence is one of the hallmarks of uterine and colon cancer. This is why it is extremely important to talk to your doctor if you have tried dozens of ways to get rid of bloating and digestive problems, but still have not achieved a tangible result and have not found a reason why your stomach is puffy.

Flatulent Foods

Diet plays a huge role in regulating how much air and food gets inside your digestive tract. What to do with bloating? For everything to go smoothly, the diet should consist of foods rich in fiber, 25-30 grams of which should be present in the diet daily. This is not difficult when you have whole foods in your diet, including vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, and legumes. So it will be easier to track the body's reaction to a particular product and find exactly the one that causes flatulence. Remember that bloating depends on your overall lifestyle, not just the food on your plate if you thought it was only after eating that your belly swells.

Foods to help fight bloating:

  • Probiotics: The "good bacteria" called probiotics live in the human digestive tract and fight the "bad bacteria" that can trigger digestive problems and all kinds of unwanted reactions. They can be taken as food supplements, but the best source of probiotics is the food rich in them, namely kefir, yogurt, kimchi, sauerkraut, and kombucha.
  • Natural dairy products: I always recommend eating everything natural, this also applies to dairy products. Of course, it's more customary to go and buy everything in the supermarket, but everything is pasteurized and homogenized there. During the production process, enzymes necessary for proper digestion die, even people with lactose intolerance are recommended to use natural dairy products. It is better not to buy yogurt with artificial ingredients, choose mature cheese and cottage cheese instead of cream cheese, kefir and natural yogurt instead of milk, as they contain less lactose.
  • Watery fruits and vegetables: Vegetables and fruits contain water, important electrolytes, and beneficial enzymes that can help deal with bloating naturally. Eat more fresh and cooked leafy greens, cucumbers, celery, dill, artichokes, watermelons and melons, and steamed berries and vegetables.
  • Herbs, condiments and tea: Natural, soothing and digestive-promoting herbs and medicinal plants such as ginger, dandelion, aloe vera and fennel have been used for millennia to calm a raging belly. Some medicinal plants work as diuretics and help the body get rid of excess fluid, while others, in turn, like ginger, for example, relax the muscles in the digestive tract and promote the natural release of waste, that is, help with constipation. Eat fresh herbs of all kinds: parsley, oregano, rosemary, peeled ginger root, aloe vera juice, herbal teas, and essential oils. Do not forget about such a popular method of treating not only colds, but also the intestines, like broth with seeds and green tea.

Now that you have learned about what to do if your stomach is puffy, and got acquainted with the list of foods that you need to eat in order to overcome flatulence, let's talk about those foods that can aggravate the situation. To begin with, each person's reaction to a particular product may be different, and there is no such list in which they are all included. However, the following foods are most likely to cause bloating in most people:

  • Sugar and Sweets: Sugar ferments easily in the intestines, which can promote the growth of candida yeast and cause inflammation.
  • Most dairy products: including flavored yoghurts with sugar and artificial ingredients, and many other dairy products that lose beneficial enzymes and microorganisms during production.
  • refined grains and grains: gluten is difficult for most people to digest, and corn, oats, and other grains in some cases.
  • Among vegetables, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, onions and even garlic are not easy to digest: they contain sulfur and some types of FODMAP carbohydrates
  • legumes contribute to gas formation.
  • carbonated drinks.
  • chewing gum.
  • in some cases fermenting fruits such as apples, peaches and other pitted fruits, avocados.
  • artificial sweeteners and sugary spirits containing aspartame, sorbitol, mannitol, and xylitol.

A few more tips to help deal with flatulence:

1. Talk to your doctor

If you cannot find the main cause of bloating, contact a doctor who will conduct all the necessary examination in order to identify the right one from hundreds of factors, diseases and disorders. How is bloating and gas treated? There are many different diagnostic tests that a doctor can prescribe to get a complete picture of what is happening: stool, blood, ultrasound for "congestion", examination for intestinal patency, stomach, enema, esophageal manometry, breath test, endoscopy or colonoscopy with biopsy. Knowing the reasons and there is a cure!

2. Go in for sports

An active lifestyle helps the digestive system to function optimally, as it helps fight bloating, increases the metabolic rate, blood circulation and circulation of lymphatic fluid throughout the body, which helps to cleanse waste from the body as soon as possible. Enjoy the full benefits of exercise and do about 3-4 times a week for 30-60 minutes. Don't drink sugary sports drinks after your workout!

Can exercise make the condition worse? In some cases it can, especially if you overtrain. Overtraining puts the body in a stressful state, in which the adrenal glands actively produce the stress hormone cortisol. Exercise should serve to improve overall health and well-being, not worsen general health, digestive health, or add more stress.

3. Drink plenty of fluids

For fiber to do its job properly, you also need to drink plenty of fluids to deal with flatulence. For each person, the amount of liquid drunk per day is different, but it is worth starting at least with 6-8 glasses a day. Adequate fluid intake is important to effectively combat bloating, and your drink choices should be approached with caution.

Carbonated drinks with artificial colors, flavors, and additives can worsen bloating symptoms. Alcohol also leads to flatulence, as well as drinks containing caffeine. Better to drink plain water, infusions with fresh pieces of fruit or herbs (lemon, grapefruit, basil), or herbal teas.

4. Reduce stress

Everyone knows that when a person is irritated, tired, sad or overworked, the body malfunctions, including malfunctions of the digestive system. Stress and fatigue have a huge impact on digestion. This is because the work of the intestines and the brain is closely related to each other by the vagus nerve. In the walls of the gastrointestinal tract, there is a whole network of receptors that collect, analyze hormonal and chemical changes and send messages-reports to the central nervous system of a person, or rather to that part of it that is responsible for the intestines. The brain receives these messages, processes them and starts the intestines, which in turn produces the enzymes, saliva and secretions necessary for the normal digestive process, and it also controls the production of hormones responsible for appetite.

Irritation and stressful situations can cause changes in this communication network and distract the brain from the digestion process in order to save energy and channel it in a different direction. Stress raises cortisol levels, alters blood sugar levels, and affects the production of other hormones, which can lead to constant hunger, constipation, or swelling.
